Issue with FMS 2.0 and 2.0.1 recording...
|
|
| Jake Hilton 2006-02-22, 8:45 pm |
| I have been running tests with an app that I built and have run into
something strange...
I published a stream mixed with audio/video and audio only data. Simply
put.. I published a stream with audio and video and then published the
stream again, appending it to the first, with no video.. just audio. I then
switched back to audio/video and then back to just audio.
Well you would think that you could seek to anywhere in the stream with no
problems... well here is the problem.
If you try to seek to an audio only portion of the stream it jumps ahead to
where the video started again. It's like the audio only portion has no
keyframes. I am playing the flv progressively and so no enhanced seeking.
Here is a sample.. granted the video isn't riveting but you get the idea.
http://www.novell.com/video/media_p...l?id=3Dtest.flv
Try to seek to somewhere inbetween 35 seconds and 1:02.. it will jump you t=
o
1:02. If you let it simply play through it will play just fine.
I've never seen this one before.. and I can verify the problem with FMS 2.0=
and
2.0.1 I haven't tried the FCS 1.5.

| Hi Jake,
This may be a known issue with how a file with audio/video and then only
audio seeks. However, before I say that for sure, can you check if
enhanced seeking is turned on or off, and whatever it is now, do the
opposite. My guess is that it's on, so turn it off.

| Out of curiosity, what would lead you to do this? I understand the
arguments for progressive normally over a server in general. However,
if you already have a server running and purchased, then everything
about server playback is better, better bandwidth control, seeking,
speedy playback start, not to mention cooler. The one thing I can think
of is that you're looking to not exceed your currently purchased
capacity. Can you tell me about your case a little more, and tell me
what streaming needs you have to throw out progressive?

| Asa,
I can't answer for Jake's case, but due to the costs involved in
supporting #s of connections and bandwidth requirements, I've designed
a few hybrid (FCS/FMS recording + progressive playback) apps for myself
and for clients.
As you say, it's about keeping the currently purchased (or co-hosted)
capacity in check.
Best,
Jim

| Exactly Jim.
The problem arises when we do live events and then have massive replay's of
those events. It just makes more sense to save connections and bandwidth fo=
r
live events.

| I have just verified it is a problem with 1.5 as well. So.. can anyone from
Adobe comment on whether this is a known bug? or should I submit it as one?
If so... is there a new place to submit product bugs?
Thanks,
Jake

need to submit the bug here to the Flash team.

Subject: Re: [FlashComm] Issue with FMS 2.0 and 2.0.1 recording...
I have just verified it is a problem with 1.5 as well. So.. can anyone
from
Adobe comment on whether this is a known bug? or should I submit it as
one?
If so... is there a new place to submit product bugs?
Thanks,
Jake
