Migrating FCS1.5 content directories to FMS2
|
|
| Phil Marston 2006-03-15, 7:45 am |
| HI All,
We're looking at upgrading to FMS2 and are wondering how painful it might
be - will we be able to just copy all the current "content" wholesale
(directory structures and all) over to the new server?
Our staff upload their own content to directories that are created for them
and we just leave it to them to manage their content paths below
rtmp://server_name/staff_name/video/ it'll be a nightmare if we have to
restructure any of this.
Cheers,
Phil

| Phil,
From what we've done at my university, everything went very
smoothly. Backward compatibility is excellent. If you're using a
Linux server, be very careful to have RH 3 or 4. Be sure to back up
your server-side files even though there's an option not to delete
the "applications" folder.

Bill

| Bill,
When you say "be very careful to have RH 3 or 4" does it mean it doesn't
work for other releases or is it just the install verification thing ?
http://www.flashcommunicationserver...chnical_faq.htm
Q26 says it works on other platforms.
We have been running FCS on fedora, debian etc...
I would be interested in more specific feedback on FMS2 running on Fedora.
Thanks ;-)

We have Mandrake on Linux and we could not get it installed. I have heard that other flavors have worked, but I tried several times on Fedora w/ no luck. I only know that MM said that it only works w/ RH 3 & 4.

| Well MM only supports RHEL 3 and 4. I have it running on a RHEL4 box and a
SLES9 box and the SLES9 box has given me way less problems.... (shameless

| As is the usual answer here, it's all about support. We've tested
extensively on RHEL3 and RHEL4. If you're interested in running on
another flavor or linux then please go ahead and try the developer
edition. It's free and runs the same bits. You're going to have to
install with -platformWarnOnly (though maybe not depending). There's no
reason it won't run with the correct libc and libc++ installed - and
fedora should be fine. However Adobe does not support it.

| Jake,
The install process blocked us dead in our tracks--both for multiple
attempts with Fedora and a single one with Mandrake. What do you
change so that the install doesn't balk at the OS? I gave up and got
RH4 and it installed easily and we've got 1 (small) Linux server and
1 (big) MS server w/ FMS. We want to get it on our big Mandrake.
TIA,
Bill

| Bill,
If it's complaining about your OS you can just add the -platformWarnOnly
option when you run the installer.. but if that doesn't work simply modify
the installer to not choak on the OS... it would require an edit of the
shell script. If you need help with that I can work with you to get it all
working. We'll get it running on your big Mandrake... or is it Mandriva.. :=
