So I am sure someone has run into this issue before. I am recording
streams and then playing them back using progressive HTTP download and I
can not seem to seek to different times in the recorded streams. If,
however, I play a video that has not been recorded but rather encoded
some other way, then seeks seems to work. =20

Any ideas of how to get the indexing to work for these recorded streams?
I have not figured out what's up with this yet.

Cheers,

Colin

Are you using FCS 1.5? If so it may lack metadata it needs for this. You ma=
y
need to look into:

Metadata is a good point to start investigating. But doesn't FCS 1.5 also
inject at least the duration (which is all that's needed for seek)?
In any case make sure you update FCS 1.5 by running the available Updaters
on Macromedia.com

Also feel free to post one of the dodgy videos here and someone will look
into it and tell you why it won't seek.

I remember tht the first version of FCS 1.5 did not correctly insert meta=
data into recorded movies.

There are 3 updates to FCS 1.5 so it's best if you install them all. They=
won't fix just the metadata issue...

I found that I am able to seek progressive FLVs that have no video conten=

only audio.
onMetaData retrieves the duration(and other properties) only for FLV with=

video content.
Has anyone experienced this? Recorded with FMS 2.

I submitted a flash player bug that kindof deals with this problem. If you
record a stream, to FMS or FCS, that contains audio only.. then video with
audio.. and then back to audio only if you try to seek to a place within th=
e
first audio only portion the player will jump to and play where the video
with audio starts. It fails to seek in the audio only portion.

So it seems that this is backwards to the problem you are seeing but they
may be related... 3rd cousins maybe?

Well it seems that I sorted my issue out. I think I was doing something
stupid. Its seems that if you have a low keyFrame density then seek is
not the most graceful feature in the world. Oh well. =20

Now its just a matter of finding a trade off between quality settings
and seek accuracy.

Cheers,

Colin

I ran some tests a while ago and couldn't see any noticeable difference in
file size when I used one keyframe per second in opposition to one keyframe
every 5 seconds.
Maybe it's affected by the kind of footage you use but try more dense
keyframes and check the filesize. If it has little or no effect then go with
the high keyframes - I do whenever I can.
