| Hi list,
I have a client who wishes to integrate a VOIP system with FCS. I digged th=
e
list and found some clues, but I didn't find a real answer.
I saw on Macromedia's website that it seems possible to do.
Can anyone give me some clues please?
Best regards,
Peter Wu

I don't think it is possible.
I mean... it is technically possibile because Adobe's Breeze (which uses
fms2) can be integrated with voip (and has a g711.dll somewhere)... but
there is no official word about using voip with FMS2.
I'll wait for other answers... but i'm pretty sure you can't integrate
the 2 things.
(another great move from mm)

| Hi Dario...
I feel the same thing about Macromedia's move (or Adobe's move)...
75% of my clients are asking me about VOIP, and I had to turn them down eac=
h
time or say "I'll have to research about it".
My clients see great potentials with FCS/FMS... but I had to explain to the=
m
why FCS/FMS cannot integrate with VOIP and H. 323.... or if there is such
possibility I simply don't know it.
I even advertised for Breeze in the end... "Hey, you know, Macromedia's
Breeze supports it... but it's just not cheap!"
In the end, all of us can see... this is business strategy.... and we are
all striving to do something about it on the edge... without going into
Breeze :-p
Well if my clients have lots of budget to spend on video conference / long
distance education.... they would have gone to breeze in the first place no=
?
Which is true... after my clients find out the price of Breeze... they just
come back to me (so far none has actually turned to breeze) :-)
Oh well... I am still looking for ways to bring VOIP and FCS/FMS together
though... since clients are always asking....
Best regards,
Peter Wu

| Im a lurker on this list normally. But since this is something I was
just looking into, I thought I should post.
Two reasons..
1. Audio codec. NellyMooser. Cant be transcoded. There is talk of an
app to do this. But its likely not to be possible to use for live
transcoding.
2. Even if 1 wasnt an issue. There is latency. Audio chats must have
low latency. A round the houses, via ffmpeg, and etc is likely to slow
things down to the point where it isnt worth bothering.
Please... Adobe support Speex. Its an Open Source and fine quality
voice codec with low encoding overhead and small size.
Heck.. if you give developers access to the raw audio data from the
microphone in flash player 8.5 I would be happy to create an open
source encoder and decoder in as3. Currently you can get the sound
data, but not for the microphone. Then just include the ability to
transfer raw bytes to rtmp and welcome to a world of developers trying
out all sorts of new codecs. If its fast enough that solution would
enable people to use different codecs without adding fat to the
player.
Hope you dont mind me posting here.

PS: Hello to the FMS crew, we know how we like to hang out on each
others lists ;-)

| Alarm, an intruder in the camp... And worse, he's using the O word in the
same sentence as AS3!
+1 for Speex from me ;-)
