Hi Kevin,

We use live video stream (16 kbps) and audio (8 kHz). Every user can see
8 other video/audio windows.
We use call method to send text and remote shared object to keep list of
users (rooms) on server.=20
List is send to users partially only when/what is changed.

Thanks for your help

For a seem-less "Work together" approach with no additional coding, 1 =
Origin
and 2 Edge Servers would be your best approach. Where users connect to =
the
Edge Servers to offset the load on the single machine. This solution
requires additional licensing. =20

To avoid additional licensing, using the SSAS NetConnection "proxy" =
method
is your best approach. This requires some fancy SSAS scripting to =
bridge
the application. This is not overly complex, however I'd strongly =
suggest
developing a strategy.

Question - I am assuming your "Chat" application is like a small VOIP
solution (using voice versus text). Is that correct?

Kevin Towes.

Hi Kevin,

I have 4 stacked licenses, so I think to seperate them with 2 license
profile 1 licenses at each server

I was most interested in whether is was possible to have the 2 servers =
to
"work together" so the users don't feel that they are at 2 separate =
servers
when changing chatrooms

Best regards

Bo

Hi Bo -=20

The Edge / Origin server cluster should be used when you're considering
capacity of 5000 users or more, and with at least 2-3 Edge servers. =
There
is no reason you should need 1 Edge and 1 Origin. =20

If you are thinking of splitting your application, you can "chain" =
servers
together (if you have the right license) - using SSAS NetConnection to =
proxy
them, then using the SSAS Stream class to proxy the stream.

Hope this helps.
Kev.

Hi Again,

I have a problem :-(

In our agreement with the developer we have agreed that one of the
succescriterias would be that the chat could handle 300 simultaneous =
users
in a good quality

At the moment the chat freeze around 180-200 users, which is a known =
problem
in FMS 2.01

I have therefore suggested them to split the chat in 2 servers, the =
mainroom
at 1 server, and the other rooms at another server, but integrated so =
the
users don't know that the rooms actually is switched between 2 servers

The delevoper mean that this would require a edge server - can that be
correct, or is there any other suggestions until the fix in fms 2.01 is
released ??

Thanks in advance for the answers!

I meant state in specific regard to CPU usage, system memory =
consumption,
and bandwidth usage. From what you describe it sounds like the system =
is
overloaded, as reducing the load removes the issue. No, downgrading is
unlikely to help here.

Hi,

What do you mean with the "state" ?

If you mean which kind of things that happen just before the crash, its =
that
all the cams is very slow updating the profile descriptions, and that =
the
chatmessages freeze, and then suddenly start again when the number of =
users
decrease, or crash if the number increase

Will it for sure help to downgrade to 1,5 ??

Again, thanks in advance for the answer

Hi guys,

I can't be of much help for schedules here. As usual, I don't control =
when
things come out and the more I guess the more incorrect I am. So I'll =
say
the same thing I usually say, we're working on it right now.

As for solving the issue, it's load related so you can likely mitigate =
the
issue by splitting the load to more than one machine. What's the state =
of
the single machine that you are running now when it encounters a =
problem? =20

Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply

Can the problem be "solved" by splitting the chat up at 2 different =
servers,
so we have 1 server for the main room, and 1 for the other rooms ?
Both servers will run at the same network, and ISP connection - sorry if =
my
question is stupid, but I am just tired of wasting money, and then the =
new
things doesn't help at all

Hi Bo,

This is a known issue and should be fixed in the next updater of FMS to
come out. To answer your next question, I don't make the schedule of
when that next updater will be out but I would say soon and we're
working on it now.
