RSO and "SharedObject.Proxy.Connect"
|
|
| Dennis - I Sioux 2006-06-06, 7:11 am |
| Hey Guys,
This is driving me nuts.. i'm probably overlooking something.. :
I'm working with a proxied temp RSO..
In some situations after the nc.onStatus is called with a =
"NetConnection.Connect.Success" and the RSO is connected it will call =
the nc.onStatus with "SharedObject.Proxy.Connect"..
When the "SharedObject.Proxy.Connect" comes by the RSO won't(/or after =
10 min) give an onSync untill the RSO is changed, instead of an =
onFirstSync..
When the "SharedObject.Proxy.Connect" doesn't come it works just fine.
Anyone got an idea.. i'm to deep in it so i'm probably overlooking the =
simpel solution.
Many thanks
Dennis

| Hi Dennis,
I'm just checking mail while on vacation so I may not get an answer to
you quickly. Before I dig into the code, can you answer these questions
for me:
1. What version of FCS/FMS are you using now?
2. Are you using the Active Chat Users (437K Zip file) code from chapter 16?
Yours truly,
-Brian

Hey Brian,
Thanks for the reply from your vacation (programmer never stops i guess :=
) )
1. version 2.0 (Console:1.075)
2. Indeed i'm using the 16 example
I'm bypassing the webserver tickets at the moment.. so i have just the fl=
ash=20
media server to worry about..
=CDt seems to be giving the proxy.connect problem mentioned earlier when =
the=20
nc is already connected when the ActiveChatUsers_Leaf creates the=20
activeUsers RSO.
Resulting that the onSync doesn't get called.. or in an large=20
(server)interval or something all at once.
It also seems to make difference if the SO are already created once...or =
if=20
i delete them first manually.
Further notes are that i bypassed the wait on the second client in the=20
removePendingComponent.. so a single user can join a room.
Thanks for any help/insight you could give me!
Cheers,
Dennis

| Hi Dennis,
I've experimented a little with the code. In my tests there is always a=20
NetConnection.Connect.Success followed by a SharedObject.Proxy.Connect=20
message. I always get both messages. However, the application does have=20
the problem that sometimes onSync in called and sometimes it is not on=20
the Proxied SharedObject. I have not seen this before so will have to=20
create a much smaller test sample to try to find out what is wrong or at=20
least create a work around. I probably won't get back to this until=20
tomorrow.

| Brian Lesser 2006-06-07, 7:11 am |
| Hi Dennis,
This morning I was able to reproduce what may be an intermittent problem
with Proxied Shared Object onSyncs using the following code:
<code from="...applications/RMSOMasterTest/main.asc">
so = SharedObject.get("test", true);
so.setProperty("hi", "bye " + Math.random());
application.onConnect = function(client){
trace("onConnect> client.referrer: " + client.referrer);
return true;
}
</code>
<code from="...applications/RMSOSlaveTest/main.asc">
nc = new NetConnection();
nc.onStatus = function(status){
for (var p in status) trace("nc.onStatus> status." + p + ": " +
status[p]);
}
trace("connect: " + nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/RMSOMasterTest"));
so = SharedObject.get("test", true, nc);
so.onSync = function(infoList){
for (var i = 0; i < infoList.length; i++){
var info = infoList[i];
for (var p in info) trace("onSync> " + i + ": info." + p + ": " +
info[p]);
}
}
so.onStatus = function(status){
for (var p in status) trace("so.onStatus> status." + p + ": " +
status[p]);
}
</code>
At one point, when I ran the slave app and reloaded it in the admin
console I got the following output:
Unloaded application instance RMSOSlaveTest/_definst_
connect: true
nc.onStatus> status.level: status
nc.onStatus> status.code: NetConnection.Connect.Success
nc.onStatus> status.description: Connection succeeded.
onSync> 0: info.code: change
onSync> 0: info.name: hi
onSync> 0: info.oldValue: undefined
Unloaded application instance RMSOSlaveTest/_definst_
connect: true
nc.onStatus> status.level: status
nc.onStatus> status.code: NetConnection.Connect.Success
nc.onStatus> status.description: Connection succeeded.
nc.onStatus> status.level: status
nc.onStatus> status.code: SharedObject.Proxy.Connect
The second time I did not get any onSync calls and did get a
SharedObject.Proxy.Connect call that I do not normally see! This
happened very rarely. Most of the time I got the onSync call and no
SharedObject.Proxy.Connect message. If anyone sees a problem/bug with my
code please let me know? Or is there a bug with the admin console so
that it might not report everything?? Otherwise this may be a bug in FMS
2.0.1
Yours truly,
-Brian

| Dennis - I Sioux 2006-06-08, 7:11 am |
| Hey Brian,
Again thanks for the time you'r taking for this..
The idea came to me that it might have something to do with the killing of
the application with the admin console beginning of this week.. but figured
it was a long shot?
If not we could do a little test to see if it is handlled differently when
killed with code..
I've did a few test deleting the RSO from the application folder seemed that
i get the proxy when i've deleted them..
For my own logics.. it's right that the proxy on the nc.onStatus is actually
from giving the nc to the SO.get to use as representative for a connection
to an application instance?
And not another event from the nc... because i found it a bit unlogic that
the onStatus of the nc was called instead of the onStatus of the SO..
As i'm stuck with this for a long time and a bit new to FMS.. i began
thinkingin crazy things like:
-is it possible that it is still a "ghost" SO that it is trying to
reconnect to.. as there is with a wrong deletion of setInterval.. or
loadvars? .. and with that thought is it any use to try to connect it
"localy" instead of the proxy.. or delete the SO(on the slave) on
application.onAppStop?
I'll do some other test and come back to you on it..
Thanks again!
Cheers,
Dennis

| Hey,
Brian, did i mention that when i have several swf's pending because of the
proxy.connect... that at a certain point they all suddenly get an onSync? :S
... i know.. clueless.. could this be because of a setInterval/ periodical
update on the server/rso?
Though that it had something to do with the nc connected or not.. but indeed
checked again.. and there is no logic there.. the idea of closing the RSO at
onAppShutdown on the slave doesn't seem to work either.. gonna try to do a
SO.get() again when a proxy.connects comes by.. although this is ducktaping
to the max.. :-D
Cheers,
Dennis

| Dennis - I Sioux 2006-06-08, 7:11 am |
| Hey Brian,
I don't want to get to excited.. only did one test.. but it seems to work
with the following fix:
In the NetConnectionFactory.asc add:
case "Proxy.Connect":
trace("NetConnectionFactory nc.onStatus> code: " + code +",
dispatchEvent=onProxyConnect");
this.dispatchEvent({target:this, type:"onProxyConnect",
info:info});
break;
In the ActiveChatUsers_leaf.asc add:
p.onProxyConnect = function(ev){
and redirecting it to the leaf's original onConnect.. where it will call the
so.get()
Resulting that the so is "get" again.. and getting a onSync!
This is the trace:

| Hi Dennis,
Right now I'm going on the assumption that it is an FMS 2.0.1 bug but I
don't know how bad it is. If I can find more time I'll look for
workarounds but a lot will depend on if there is a reliable way to
eventually sync up the proxy. If not then it might be a case of bailing
out on proxied shared objects or waiting for the next release of FMS!
I'll see what I can do later today.
Yours truly,
-Brian

| Hey Brian,
Once again, many thanks for the effort.
Hope you can help me on the way..
Working on a project that's gonna use (many) lobbies, rooms and even
tables.. so the proxied RSO is kinda important for me
I've send an e-mail to the head tech sales ove rhere aswell.. see if he can
do a favor to bring it to attention so a workaround can be found :-D
Strange tht no records are found of anyone having this problem before..as
proxied so seem like a popular solutions for many things..
I'm gonna keep do test and try workarounds..I'll keep you updated if i find
anything..
Thanks!
Cheers,
Dennis

Well, the proxy SO appears to be setup ok and "synchronized" with the
master, despite the fact that onSync is not always called. As a hack you
could try calling:
so.onSync([]);
yourself when you get the "SharedObject.Proxy.Connect" message just to
kick off the application. However, it would be really difficult to pass
real sync data into onSync when you call it manually, so even if you get
it working ok it is not an effective general purpose work around.
I don't plan to update my code until either I discover I've done
something wrong I can fix or Adobe fixes proxied shared object onSync
calls in a later release of FMS.
Regarding your project, be careful how far your try to scale something
using shared objects. Every shared object resides in memory so there is
always a limit as to how much data you can put in one. If you are
talking about tens of thousands of users holding information about each
one of them in a shared object is not a good idea. If you only have 1000
users it might be ok. In the larger scale case you are better off using
lobby instances and updating a database to coordinate inter-lobby messages.
Yours truly,
-Brian

| Hey Brian,
Currently Adobe is looking into the problem..
I was wondering if i could borrow your setup to show the problem better, as
the activeusers has lots of code arround it.
Also i was wondering what version you tested it on.. an origin or develop?
Again many thanks,
Dennis

| Hi Dennis,
The simple test app I used is here:
http://flash-communications.net/sou...st/RMSOTest.zip
To use it copy the two applications subfolders into your applications
folder and using the FMS2 console start and restart the RMSOSlaveTest
app. The traces in the console will mostly look like this:
Unloaded application instance RMSOSlaveTest/_definst_
nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/RMSOMasterTest"); returned: true
nc.onStatus> status.level: status
nc.onStatus> status.code: NetConnection.Connect.Success
nc.onStatus> status.description: Connection succeeded.
init> Setting up so...
onSync> 0: info.code: clear
onSync> 1: info.code: change
onSync> 1: info.name: 1
onSync> 1: info.oldValue: undefined
onSync> 2: info.code: change
onSync> 2: info.name: hi
onSync> 2: info.oldValue: undefined
But sometimes will look like this:
Unloaded application instance RMSOSlaveTest/_definst_
nc.connect("rtmp://localhost/RMSOMasterTest"); returned: true
nc.onStatus> status.level: status
nc.onStatus> status.code: NetConnection.Connect.Success
nc.onStatus> status.description: Connection succeeded.
init> Setting up so...
nc.onStatus> status.level: status
nc.onStatus> status.code: SharedObject.Proxy.Connect

possible fix for me and let me know how it works and if you're still

| Late to the game, but I just want to chime in that I have seen this problem
too. Definitely a bug.
We'll see if they fix it I guess. I have not updated to fms2.0.2 due to
issues with license limits being reached before they are actually there (a
few people have reported trouble there). Once that gets cleared up we'll
update to the new version.
Perhaps 2.0.2 fixes it.. dunno though.
