Author create/ modify an FLV at runtime ?
Chmielewski yarek

Is it possible to create/modify a FLV at runtime

ex:
- load an FLV
- put some text subtitles (or any effects on the FLV)
- save all as an FLV at RUNTIME so the subtitles are included into the FLV ?

Thanks

C,

At this time, no. If you want to add some subtitles, you can =20
superimpose a movieclip over the video with the subtitles. To do what =20=

you want, use an AVI or MOV editor (like Adobe Premier or Final Cut) =20
and then export as FLV (or export as a file that can be converted to =20
FLV).

Yes. One of the advantages of FLV format versus WMV is that you can use
overlay graphics. Therefore, the graphics can be created at runtime and
do not need to be compressed, so no artifacts. If created optimally,
the bandwidth cost is very low.

For example, if you are promoting space travel for Boy Scouts, the
picture of the helmeted astronaut can be personalized with the name,
age, and rank of the viewer and their prospective travel dates. This
gives new meaning to the term "space cadet."

Randy,

We're developing a series of videos using cue points. (We're shooting
them today.) With each cue point, we're having a related feature pop
up in text next to the video. Alternatively we could have the text
pop up on the screen.

The video guy seems to think that text on the screen is more
effective because that's where people are looking. I'm thinking that
we've go so much going on on the video portion that the text popping
up next to the video is more effective because 1) a lot is happening
on the screen and 2) the text on the side can stay put after the
video is over.

Any thoughts on this?

TIA,
Bill

I'm very opinionated about this. We've got a ton of experience with
video and synchronized events. =20

Your method - video with separate synchronized graphics window - is far
more effective. You can ramp up that effectiveness by having the
graphics window non-static, i.e. moving highlights, animation, etc., all
of which can be triggered by cue points.

Randy,

Thanks. We're doing everything in front of a green screen and we'll
be switching backgrounds coordinated with the talk. Along the side
we'll be putting the text (--I like your idea of some non-static
materials there as well). You may have seen our roughs at:

http://poobah.hartford.edu/flashcom...cations/iitusb/

We're going to need graphic artists as well--which we'll get from the
university's art school. (My graphics have a way of automatically
being bad!)

Thanks again,
Bill

Is 54 too old to enroll? ;-)

The trick with Flash graphics is to keep them vector, which means you
need artists with vector skills using Illustrator or Flash.
Unfortunately, those skills are harder to find than Photoshop skills.

BTW, you've got the seeds of an effective mechanism and a very dignified
and credible spokesperson.
