Author Client - Server Ping

If I do not initiate any regular client - server ping mechanism and there
is no activity in a particular app, could I assume that a connection will
be killed within the amount of idle threshold time specified in the config
files? I'm just wondering if I should start doing this sort of thing for
all apps, something that basically checks to see if the connection is
alive like every 2 seconds. We've had some disconnection problems in one
particular app and I'm wondering if the connections are just going idle.

Thanks,
Brandon
