Flash Player 9 for Mac.
|
|
|
| I recently downloaded flash player 9 for Mac and today I noticed that there
are new codec's in the flash player. HDVPRO 1080i60 - HDVPRO 1080i50 -
HDVPRO 720p
I'm wondering what the purpose of these would be? Higher Compression?
Something to do with the on2 live sdk?
Thanks,
Alden

| Hi Alden,
It has likely to do with HD-streaming and has nothing to do with the ON2
live SDK. Those codecs are known HDTV codecs (MPEG4), used for HDTV
streaming. So it seems that the FP9 is suited to play those codecs (which I
think is really cool - fullscreen HDTV in flash?!?!). I'm not sure about
this and I really do not know of it is combined with the RTMP-protocol (and
the FLV-format) or the intend is to use an alternative protocol or format.
There are probably more people on this list that know a lot more about this
than I do. It would be nice if someone of Adobe is willing to reply on this
before we start speculating again...
Kind regards,
Mark de Jong

| Let me second Mark's request. I was in New York City last month at an
Adobe presentation of using Premier with a Panasonic HD video camera,
and the results were mind-boggling. For those doing on-line
streaming using HD materials (such as video produced using the
Panasonic HD cam)--which seems to be favored by movie sites--this
would be a huge boost to FMS and its developers. We were in a semi-
dark room watching a presentation, and they were using the Panasonic
HD cam for a HD VCR. At one point someone hit the Camera mode, and
even in the dark the group I was with came out very clear. (My best
profile is in total darkness!)
Thanks,
Bill

| That is odd. The Flash player gets the camera list from the installed
QuickTime digitizers, so those are showing up there for some reason.
Something may have changed between 8 and 9, or perhaps in an Apple OS
update, to make them appear on the list.

That IS confirmed. I never noticed it. Offlist I sent a copy of what
I'm getting, and it's the same thing. Whoaaa! Is it the drivers for
the new HD cameras? Like what else would DV PRO HD stand for?
We live in hope!
