I'm trying to do a mock up for a 7912 logo, but my artisitic ability is about as good as my French (zuts alors!).

Does anyone have any tips on what drawing package to use, what font type(s) to stick with, what point size to use, etc that might help me out? And what previewing techniques I can use without having to load them on the phone to see what they might look like? I find that what looks good on the screen looks, well, um, a little different on the phone.

I just do it by hand in Photoshop. The main trick is to get _exactly_ the
right shades of gray, and to do the characters by hand, so they come out
the same, rather than trying to use a font.

If you get really stuck, I can probably whip one out for you. No, I'm not
offering to do that generally, for the whole world. :-)

Logo is one thing...

What has baffled me thus far is the stuff in the SDK/"Developing cisco IP
Phone Services" book on how to set up graphical + text screens, like their
sample calendar app.

The default font is too darned big but the work needed to get a smaller font
and the same functionality (scrolling using the rocker switch, line wrap...)
is a hundredfold greater.

Might be easier just to petition cisco to develop a firmware with a smaller
browser font. (Especially for the 7940/60)

No, there are two shades of gray, also, so you can anti-alias if you
want. Though that looks like crap if you try to do it to small text.

Here are some examples, which you can use as templates, if you like:

I noticed your images are larger than the 88x27 pixels suggested. Are you using this on a 7940/60 or a 7912. The document I have access to specifically said 88x27 and black and white must be saved as monochrome. This is the logo loaded on the phone using the gkdefault.cfg not the IDLE url.

Interesting topic, eh? ;)

Oh, sorry, you're undoubtedly right. I was just assuming it was similar
to the 7940/60, but if you're reading a spec that says otherwise, no doubt
it's correct.

Leo,

do the letters by hand, that's what I did. :-)

I used Microsoft Paint, and previewed the "work" with option "View Bitmap".
With 88x27 B&W pixels, there is not much room for doing things very wrong.

Vincent

PS: "zut" takes no 's' :-)

Thanks. I tried Arial Font and it worked pretty good, along with a double wide VT font.

We'll see what the client thinks... ;)
