Cisco 7935 firmware issues
|
|
|
| Hello,
I have inherited a cisco 7935 and I am running CM 4.0
I am having trouble getting the 7935 to pick up new firmware. I have a
tftp server running on my CM Publisher, and the device defaults are set
correctly for the firmware version. However, the screen only displays:
Station IP: 10.96.3.58
Contacting: 10.96.3.11 (my tftp server)
When I go to http://10.96.3.58 I get:
Wind Web Server Error Report:
Server Error: 501 Not Implemented
No RPM for this combination of URL and method
/dynaform/index_Dyna.htm
I am able to telnet to 10.96.3.58, but I get a username & password
prompt, but I do not know the password, and cisco/cisco doesn't work.
Does anyone know how else I can force flash this device?
On another note, I had to explicitly set the VLAN on my switch, as the
device was picking up the data vlan when connecting, shouldn't this
device auto register on the voice vlan?
Thanks,
Avidan

| I had some problems with a 7935 and ended up RMA'ing it. But after I
RMA'd it Wes told me how to reset it to Factory defaults. Might be
worth a try.

Do a **1 from the phone. A dialog will appear asking if you want to
delete the phone configuration. Press Yes to clear the complete setting.
If you press NO, . it will put you in the phone setting menu screen,
which also gives the option in changing the passwd.

| I have tried reseting to factory defaults, but the issue remains. Is
there a default vxWorks username and password? I feel like if I can get
in via SSH, I can force a firmware upgrade...
Thanks,

| I had a similar issue with a 7935 a few months ago. In my case, we RMAed
the 7935, but it turned out to be the switch. Don't know if this will help,
since it's a long convoluted story, but here's the summary I sent to TAC
after I eventually found the real problem. I never received a reply to my
question in the last paragraph.
The problem was/is, we are using 3524-PWR-XL switches, and port security
behaves a little differently on these switches than it does on "real" IOS
switches, as documented in the TAC Case Collection at
http://www.ciscotaccc.com/lanswitch...case=K96362614. (We had
been using port security to protect public access jacks where the conference
phones were used.) One of the effects of this is that if Port Security is
used, once a device (e.g., the 7935 in this case) is plugged into a port on
a given switch, it can't be plugged into any other port on the switch. In
our case, it looked as if the 7935 was broken, since it refused to give up
its old DHCP-assigned address, and could not be reset to its default
settings.
Eliminating Port Security from the configuration solved the apparent "device
failure" problem and allowed us to move the phone freely among all the 3524
ports. However, this doesn't explain why requesting the phone reset to
device defaults didn't work either -- if you could find out why this is, I'd
appreciate it.
Good luck,
Mike Armstrong

However, the device just isn't hitting the TFTP server. I am not seeing

Any ideas on how I can monitor the traffic on the switch to which this

Is there any ACLs or FWs between it and the DNS, TFTP, CM, etc.?

| Nope, nothing is being filtered with FW or ACL's. In fact, I plugged in
another 7935 and it loaded the new firmware no problem. I ran a port
scan on the device, and telnet and www are open.
How else can I force this device to upgrade?

Hello,
I have inherited a cisco 7935 and I am running CM 4.0
Thanks,
Avidan
