What is the sdm.tar used for on a 2811 router. I need to free up some
space to do a upgrade remotely and don't want to del files from flash if I
need them

Secure Device Manager.

It's like an auto-lock-the router down GUI with some monitoring etc built
in. It's not needed for the router to function.
