Setting up local DSP resources on 2821
|
|
| Wydra, Jason 2006-07-18, 1:11 pm |
| Does anyone have a good example config on how to set this up? I have two
onboard PVDM2 32 channel modules in my 2821. I want the local router to
hit the gateway first for MTP, Conference and Transcoding. Then CCM
4.1.3. I have the cisco procedure but I'm wondering if I really need to
configure everything they are suggesting. Looks like it might require
multiple dspfarm profiles for all the services I want to provide.
Thanks,
Jason Wydra

I need to do something exactly like this but will only get to it in a
couple of days. If I do get something before the group comes up with
something I will share it

| To my understanding you do have to have multiple profiles.... One for
xcoding and one for conferencing.
You apply the resourses via your Media Resourse group and lists.
Hope that helps.

Hi Ted
Sounds like you have done it a couple of times.
Q1. I notice in the config examples they have an example that has
voice-card 1
no dspfarm
dsp services dspfarm
bit confusing - why no dsprarm and right below it dsp services dspfarm
???
Q2. They also show
associate profile 10 register CFB123456789966
associate profile 6 register MTP123456789988
where does the values after register come from - are they arbitrary
things one choose and need to be unique per site and per profile I
register etc.???
Q3.
I have a 2801 with one PVDM2-8 - currently 1 x pvdm2-8 to terminate 6
isdn bri channels (3lines). Will add another DSP - probably a PVDM2-32
later for the trancoding and conferencing services.
I believe I will probably have to use soothing like this.
voice-card 0
dsp services dspfarm
etc etc. with the profiles and so on
My question is basically - does the above look correct -- if I want
the gateway to operate as h323 gateway and also do some hardware
transcoding and conferencing. It will not be a dedicated DSP farm.
my partial config for the h323 voice gateway currently without any DSP
services for transcoding and conferencing is like this:

| Thanks. I just got done setting it up that way. I also went into CCM and
set up the MRG and MRGL, adding the new hardware transcode resource. I
chose the IOS enhanced hardware resource. The resource registered in CCM
however if I go to the gateway and issue the sho dsp active command,
none of the channels are in use, even though I see a call in progress. I
reset all of the devices in the device pool.
I'm still playing around with it...... Thanks though!

I will have a PVDM2-8 for normal termination of the BRIs and probably

Voice-card 0 just refers to the PVDM resources on the motherboard.
Voice-card 1 would be a network module populated with PVDM's.

understand conferencing but the head end is where all the xcoding would
be done or I'm missing something. Are you running something like IPCC
at remote sites?

I don't think you are missing something. You are right as far as I am
concerned. For my remote sites I will only set up conferencing.
Because the phones are in a region which uses G729 to other sites
across the wan they will natively without transcoding support G729.
Probably misleading from my side because I talked like they had it in
the example for both xcoding and conferencing
While we talk about it - MTP too ?? I am not sure I will need any MTP
at remote sites or at HQ for that matter - just simple G729 voice
calls across a wan link, G711 in the branch - all cisco iP phones,
ATAs with 4 faxes. Or does anyone have a simple explanation of what
would typically require MTP in a stock standard CCM solution with
remote branches
Having said that I picked up something very strange at my HQ. Call
Manager is complaining that it does not have enough MTP resources and
I not sure why because the same applies at my HQ. This is in the
event viewer application logg. At HQ All cisco IP phones - G711 in HQ
but G729 across wan to other sites, no voicemail, no IPCC just ccm
conferencing, and the default unicast MOH and the rest on defaults
for about 150 users. I am busy capturing traces now to try and figure
out why the error messages in the event viewer application logs.
I don't know if you have seen this before
MtpNoMoreResourcesAvailable - No more MTP resources available.
App ID: cisco CallManager
Cluster ID: StandAloneCluster
Node ID: 10.x.x.x.
Explanation: MTP resource is not available.
Recommended Action: Install additional MTP or transcoder resources..
I think I also saw a similar message but where it says MTP/transcoding
resources not available

| How does the gateway allocate DSP resources on a 2821 for voice
termination? I'm curious because I'm assigning dsp resources for
transcoding and conferencing and I am wondering if it is possible to
assign too many sessions to the dspfarm profiles so that there are no
longer and dsp resources for voice termination. I have two onboard
pvdm2-32.
Thanks,

No problem. You will only see active DSP's, unless the DSP's have been
allocated (to a dsp profile or to and dso/fxo port) you will not see
them in the output.
I have a 2821 with 2x PVDM2-32 and see the same output you are
describing. "Show voice dsp detailed" will show you all of your DSP's.

Thanks, just curious because if I look at active dsp channels it shows
me 24, even though I have two 32 channel PVDM modules. Can you explain
the difference? I guess I would expect to see 64 available channels.
It's most likely a matter of me not understanding the PVDMs well enough.

Jason -
Voice-card 0 just refers to the PVDM resources on the motherboard.
Voice-card 1 would be a network module populated with PVDM's.

| As long as your voice interfaces are already configured on the router, it
is not possible to allocate too many dsp's for xcode/conferencing.
However, if you were to configure the xcode/conferencing resources before
you added your "pri-group" for example and you didn't leave enough dsp's
the router wouldn't allow you to add the pri-group command.

| This is a response to a 3 week old post. Did you guys ever get this
working? I am reading through the documentation and it's a bit
confusing. You guys posted part of a config below, but I am reading and
they mention Associating a DSP Farm Profile to a cisco Unified
CallManager Group. Did you have to do this?
Which example would you follow for onboard ISR 28XX/38xx router PVDM2
configuration??

| The PDVM2s require the dspfarm profile configuration. Yes you do
have to associate the profile to a sccp ccm group.

| In this case I am configuring a 2811 running 12.4(9)T. The show diag
shows me this whick makes sense since I ordered the PVDM 16 to 32
upgrade :
PVDM Slot 0:
32-channel (G.711) Voice/Fax PVDMII DSP SIMM PVDM daughter card
Hardware Revision : 4.0
Part Number : 73-8539-05
Board Revision : A0
Deviation Number : 0
Fab Version : 04
PCB Serial Number : FOC101818WH
RMA Test History : 00
RMA Number : 0-0-0-0
RMA History : 00
Processor type : 00
Product (FRU) Number : PVDM2-32
I was able to create the profiles for conferencing and transcoding. I
am able to put max sessions for transcoding to 4, but I am not able to
select anything but 0 for conf. see below:
Lowrise(config)#dspfarm profile 1 conference
Lowrise(config-dspfarm-profile)#maximum sessions ?
<0-0> Number of sessions assigned to this profile
I have a T1 WIC and a T1-1MFT card in the router but not sure why I
can't select sessions for the conf br.
Any clues would be appreciated.....

| This seems to be case according to the DSP calc. This location is using
a PRI, but they could easily operate with 8-12 voice channels. Is it
possible to free up some DSP's and use less channels for voice
termination?
