Hi Karl,

We have this problem as well on our 7940, 7960 and even our brand new
7961 sets. What works for me is the following procedure (~5 mins per
phone):
1) take phone chassis apart
2) clean hookswitch contacts with a moist q-tip
3) straighten the wire hookswitch spring to increase tension
4) assemble chassis

I feel that this issue is a serious design flaw and can't understand
why it wasn't properly addressed with the 7941/61 phone set. It happens
so frequently that I wonder why a recall or appropriate self-help
document has never been released by Cisco. One small consolation, after
I clean a phone this issue never presents itself again.

Hope that helps!

R.

We have had an unusual amount of 7940's die in the past few months
with
the physical handset on hook button no properly lifting and answering
the call. Are we the first to have this happen, or is this a known
problem?
