Firmware for it is posted on CCO, but can't find marketing for it. Some
sort of conference phone I'm guessing?

It's a very purdy more industrial-looking conference
phone...with the new blobby logo on it!

Welp,

It's still shaped like a star so I'm going to assume
so.

Thanks, guess I should have waited a day, because it sure wasn't there
on Thursday when I searched for it.

Just curious...is there any cisco IP Phone that can be tied into a room
system with embedded speakers and mics(controlled by, for example, a Polycom
Vortex unit)?

At one point, I know one could extend a 7970G, but that potentially
caused electrical issues with the phone, so the external jacks were removed.

The 7970 jacks weren't removed - just covered under a sticker. (At least
on the 7970G - unsure about the later 797X models as I don't yet own
any). If you take off the sticker (that's really the hardest part :-),
plug the phone into the wall (it won't activate the menu options for
external jacks if you use POE) and set the mic and speaker options for
external in preferences it works fine. We do it in a number of places
both for AV-tied in conference phones, remote presentations, auditorium
tie-ins. Etc.
