callmanager 6 + opera = better gui performance

| i am new to the mailing list, so forgive me if this has been covered already.
i installed cm 6.0 today for the first time, having only used 4.x before. i noticed the gui slowness seen by others. i use firefox 2 on linux.
i initially thought it was platform-related (as others have), but dug a little deeper. i looked at the cm web code, and then compiled firefox for debugging. after a number of tests, it definitely appeared that the javascript engine (spidermonkey) was caus
ing the slowness. spidermonkey has performed poorly for me in the past on other web applications i have tested.
so i looked for javascript engine performance optimizations, and came across this page:
http://nontroppo.org/timer/kestrel_tests/
this page tested javascript engine implementations and found that opera 9.5 was the best by a large margin. so i installed opera 9.5 on my linux box and cm performance is MUCH snappier.
i hope this information is helpful. for firefox fans, i do not think javascript performance will get better until the tamarin engine goes into production next year. we'll have to wait and see.

| Yeah, I noticed better performance using Safari... However, its
inability to tab makes it mostly worthless as a browser...

| Just curious if anyone's ever seen where Enterprise Parameters and Service
Parameters are empty in any browser under CCM6?

Yep, CSCsg09337.
A dev pack install did not reload the parameters. TAC assistance will be required.
Get root access
su - informix
/usr/local/cm/bin/installdb -x /usr/local/cm/db/xml/xml Wait for cpu to calm
down
Had a customer who had to add ..before the command to get it to take. If the
above command doesn't work try:
.../usr/local/cm/bin/installdb -x /usr/local/cm/db/xml/xml

| You need to contact TAC and they have you set up those remote support
accounts then meetingplace in to your network and do the super secret
root access stuff themselves, then do the fix it work, etc.

vendor remote-access is a big security no-no.

| It's not a big risk because they come in through meeting place so you
can keep an eye on what TAC is doing and then disable the root access
account when they are done.

| You know this, I know this, we all know this. Doesn't mean the security
architects (or whomever is in charge) do. Yes, I've worked at some
fairly irrational places

I just upgraded my laptop to Firefox 3.0 beta 2 and my CallManager
interface is MUCH snappier. I don't know if FF3b2 includes the
tamarin engine that you speak of but it works for me...
