| Recently we have installed cisco 7912G and 7960G IP phone. Phone are
working fine without problem but I am not able to access the network
through PC which is connected to PC port on phone.
My IP phones VLAN is 192 and PC VLAN is 1.
I have old Nortel switches which does not have VoIP support. So I have
created a trunk port on Nortel switch which is member of both 1 and 192
VLAN. Another port, which is member of 192 VLAN, has been connected to
uplink router for VoIP.
In 7960, I have configured administrative VLAN as 192 and PC VLAN as 1.
But still it does not work.
Please note that phone is working in above environment.
Is it mandatory to use cisco switches to access PC port or will it work
with non-Cisco switches also?
Pl. help
Regards.

| I have tried that but as I said Phone VLAN (192) is getting through but
not PC VLAN? Is it something to do with "VOICE VLAN ENABLED" setting in
phone? It is set to "YES" right now.

| have you tried changing the pc vlan to something else other than 1?
i recall that vlan 1 is the default vlan and has some special things about it. that's just speculation, but it might be worth a try.

| Check and make sure the data VLAN (1) is tagged or untagged. Maybe the phone is sending untagged frames and the switch port is set for VLAN 1 to be tagged. In cisco-speak, the native vlan on a trunk (or access vlan #) is nottagged. There were some vendors who made all VLAN traffic tagged by default.

what version do you have?
also, this makes it sound easy:

so stick with vlan 1 (Sorry, silly suggestion) and consider firmware upgrades on the phones.

| This just in continuation. I am able to configure it on 7960G but not in
7912G.
In 7960G, it has got a parameter PC VLAN (last option in Network settings)
which I set to 1 and administration VLAN as 192 and it worked.
But in 7912G, PC VLAN setting is not there. Only Admin VLAN setting is
there.
7960G has got 7.1 firmware version but 7912G has 6.01.00 firmware version.
Will it make any difference? Both are using same call manager.
Regards and TIA
Arvind
