i can't get my head around this topic.

if i update the firmware load information in callmanager, does that effectively upgrade the IP communicator installation? or is the firmware load in the device defaults and phone configuration page something different than the software version?

There's an auto-update facility available to allow users to
automatically download CIPC updates. You have to run the CIPC
administration tool to take advantage of this. Here's some more info:
http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td...pphon/english/i
pc/admin2_0/cadins.htm#wp1146663

Since users often don't have administrative privileges on their PC, many
customers prefer to use a software deployment tool (such as SMS or
Altiris) to push out the updated MSI package.

Yes, the software version of IP Communicator is different. The firmware
version in the device defaults is usually left blank.

Has anyone used that field for IPC?

Thanks,
Erik
