Author 7970 running SCCP70.8-2-2SR2S resets on CCM

Hi, i have one CCM 5.0.4.2000-1 and there is an 7970 which sometimes
resets several times a day!!
CCM is on a gigabit port of a WS-C2950T-24 and the phones on the same
switch fast ethernet.
The phone also sometimes gets registered on the SRST which is on the
same site. it gets unregistered at the same moment and gets registered
back to the CCM.
It gets power seperately from a power cube (2950 has no POE)
Even if it gets registered on the SRST and back there is no reason for a
full reset.
Because it has one 7914, it is very noticeable since all lights start
blinking!

I took a trace from CCM service but nothing came out.
What are most common reasons for reset of a phone?
An other 7970 with 7914 also does the same. The customer has not noticed
if other phones do the same thing but those 7970 do it for sure.
Could 7914 be the problem?
7914 has S00105000200 image.

Thanks
Anthony

We saw this happening a number of times and found it was coincident with a
DHCP lease expiration period. Running Ethereal traces on the phones
confirmed that it reset after a DHCP interaction, and hard coding the IP
address was the workaround. You could try that while waiting for a solution
or better explanation.

You could also try moving the phone or switch port to another network to see
the behavior is specific to an underprovisioned network.

Candace,

Interesting. I'll have to keep your fix in mind the
next time I run into this issue since I just upgraded
the customer's phone's firmware and the issue was
resolved.

Anthony,

Hi, I had a customer with a 7970 that would drop into
SRST mode several times a day when all other phones
would remain registered to the CCM. I upgraded its
firmware and the problem went away.

Paul

Even better! (although loading a new firmware image the same week it was
posted can give you mixed results....)

Was there a bug id?

There wasn't a bug ID. The client was using CCM 3.3
and the firmware was quite dated so I just went off
of a colleague's recommendations to update the
firmware.
