So, in the past, I build a new server, restore the backup to it and run DMA

DMA fails cuz a hostname mismatch.

Cuz it's not on the domain... of course, I can't join it, cuz the
existing PUB is there...

So, I have to run DMA on an old crappy server...

Wondering, anyone else run into this and know of a workaround...?

Ick, adding servers to the domain is such a pain in the butt.

I'm not sure why DMA is failing. You can set the FQDN of the server
to anything you wish, regardless of whatever domain/workgroup the
server belongs to.

What leads you to the conclusion of a hostname mismatch causing the
DMA to fail?

Because that is what the error message in the DMA log says....

How do you add the FQDN to the box without adding it to the domain?

Is that from installdbw1.log or another log file? Validation errors
should be in installdbw1.log.

The domain name for the server is My Computer->Properties, Network
Identification->Properties->More.

It turned out two users did not have first and last names and were
causing it to fail...

However, the TAR file is only 15MB.... shouldn't it be about the same
size as the backup? or at least close to?

Actually, the error message was in the Backup06-25-07.log file for DMA...
