Author Message Waiting Indication Fixes?
Miller, Steve

We've always had issues and today is the worst. We have messages
without lights and lights without messages; otherwise, the message
system is working fine. We're running a redundant 4.2.1 Unity setup.
Re-synch doesn't work. Reboot has no effect. The ports look good in
Call Manager. There are no known issues on the Exchange side or
Exchange performance issues. I've opened a TAC case and they don't seem
to know. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank
you!

How many subscribers? Resync could take a long while.

Does the unity accounts have the right access?

Is Unity having any AD issues?

What does the Event log look like on Unity?

If you try to refresh MWI on a individual subscriber, does it work or
fail? Does the status on the messages page say pending or something
else if it fails?

Do you have any ports reserved just for dial out MWI function?

There are some unity diag traces that can be turned on and TAC should
be able to assist in this, which will let you see when a message was
left, sent and whether or not Unity got a notification back from the
mail server or not. It has been a long while since I've had to do this
so don't recall the exact traces offhand.

Also, check in the Telephony Integration Manager for how many ports are
set to do MWI dial out.
Ocampo, Walter

This is a tip from cisco Unity Deployment and solutions guide.

A useful troubleshooting tip if unity reports incorrect voice messages coun=
ts or MWI lamps does not activate as expected is to look in the ($UCInbox) =
and see the messages appearing. If a message appear in the regular inbox b=
ut not the ($UCInbox), that message likely does not have the UCInbox field =
present. Moreover, the router task concludes that the recipient is not DUC-=
enable. =

A good tip indeed, but the $UCInbox view applies to Domino integrations
and the original poster said they have an Exchange integration.

Steve - I'd suggest you check your app log. When a resync starts and
finishes, it writes an informational (not error or warning) message from
CiscoUnity_Notifier to the event log. Filter on those to find what has
been going on.

MWI will be out of sync for at least some people until the resync
finishes. So, if you filter as per above and see that the last message
indicated it was starting a resync, things are going to be messed up
until you can get it to finish.

One last thing - I've seen the resync process take waaay longer than
normal after an exchange outage. If you had one of those, I'd suggest
restarting the AvMsgStoreMonitorSvc (which, will kick off another
resync...but in theory, it'll be much faster :-) ).

HTH,
Pat

Just go to the services control panel and right click on the service,
there will be a restart option there.

My understanding is that you're never supposed to
restart CCM services from the Admministrative Services
control panel but rather use the web-based CCM control
panel to control the status of services lest you like
being bald by yanking all of your hair out in one big
tug.

I would hate to lead you down the wrong path but my understanding is that the TSP software is used to provide connectivity between Call Manager and Unity. I guess the other choice would be SIP but I do not know why that would be used. Anyway in the past T
AC has recommended that we upgrade to the latest TSP version supported by our versions of Unity and Call Manager. Version recommendations can be found here:
