| I'm really confused as to the announcement/release dates. One of the big =
things we were told at CIPTUG was that cisco would be releasing new version=
s =
of CallManager to coincide with VoiceCon or something like that, the major =
version in the spring and the update in the fall.
What good is 'announcing' something in the spring if it takes until the fal=
l =
to release it. Which is the same time you're supposed to be releasing the =
updates?
Quite honestly, I don't see how they will be able to sustain a new version =
every year. Can you imagine working on the TAC? Even if they announced an =
EOL for a product, it's likely that there are going to be 5-10 versions of =
CallManager out there at any one time.
I really think the client is losing out here.

| Well, right now there are:
3.2
3.3
4.0
4.1
4.2
4.3
5.0
5.1
6.0
PLUS:
Unity 3.1
4.0
4.1
4.2
5.0
IPCC:
3.1
3.5
4.0

And let's not even mention how many versions of CCME, CUE, Phone
firmware, CER, MM, Presence, etc...
Glad I don't work at TAC.

| I suggested to some product manager that all these applications should =
simply be services running under the callmanager cluster. A licence key =
allows you to enable a particular service. Want Unity? Install another =
subscriber and then simply install your licence key and voila. Uses the sam=
e =
directory. Same thing for Meetingplace, IPCC, etc.

| Well, a lot of versions only cause confussion... it's not possible install
a CCM 4, or 5 and after two weeks the customer ask by What about the version
6? then 6.1, some customers think, maybe that CCM is not a mature
product...
Rgds.

| Don't forget IPCC enterprise - the product everyone pretends doesn't =
exist
I think 4.6.x is finally EoS/EoL, but there is still 5.0/6.0/7.0
I do like Lelio's suggestion, but that could get hairy when you run into =
applications (such as IPCC Enterprise) which in a typical install =
encompass a lot of hardware (most installs I've worked with have used =
8-12 servers on average, some even larger...20+ servers)

| you are right, but if you buy most of the applications, as cisco has =
often done, they do not fit very well in the beginning. Therefore all =
this confusion.
Best example is CME and CM, different feature set.
