Author Button Rendering with HATS

I am very new to HATS and I am evaluating it for a customer of mine who
used to use Seagull's JWalk product. I specifically need the following
functionality:

The ability to transform a text field into a button with a specific
action. For example the 5250 application uses a convention where the
commands available for a screen are listed below the command field, like
this:

_
Add
Change
Delete
Lookup
End

I would like the command options to appear as buttons on the screen and
as each button is clicked, the first character of the button text be
entered into the command field. Is this possible and if so, how would I
approach it?

Second is it possible to add buttons that perform Keyboard actions e.g.
Creating an "OK" button that acts as an Enter key.

Thanks
