Author printers seem to sleep - need restart session

We are using HOD 8 in a few locations witn no problems like this. We have
set up new location with 5 ne pc's - xp pro. Our 5250 screen sessions are
staying open no problem but, unless we are printing steady, printer sessions
need to be closed and reopened to get printers going again - despite
connection showing steady green. We think it's something in the pc-xp set up
but can't find a sleep setting or time out. 4 printers are using LP1 and 1
is using usb - all acting the same. Can anyone offer any ideas??

Are there any firewall's between the printer sessions and the iSeries?

Could be that a Firewall is seeing no traffic for a while and timing out the
session

thanks for asking Rod. Yes there is a firewall between the iseries and this
location but we just went through opening up that parameter for our other
locations and they are all coming through the same port. We installed a new
firewall a few weeks ago and had a time out problem at all our existing
remote locations. We opened up the time out paramater and the problem
vanished so I was surprised when we ran into this little annotance at the
new location. These new pc's were falling asleep far too quickly so we
changed the power management settings on the xp clients and the screen
sessions are fine now but we can't stop the printers from dozing off.

Does sound to me like Firewall related, HOD v9 added a config feature to do
keep alives, to defeat firewalls timing out.

Considered an IP trace or maybe just sitting there with a stop watch and
seeing if sessions drop out at a certain time interval?
