Hi all!

Just a little note to tell you that Softerra LDAP Administrator is now
(version 3.2.1) able to detect Apache Directory Server.

This is a corollary of fixing DIREVE-211 (thanks to Alex) and a
suggestion I made to Softerra some weeks ago (thanks to Kirill for
adding this one). See the release notes of the new version for details:
http://ldapadministrator.com/resour...leaseNotes.html

I have just tested the detection functionality with our current server,
and it works perfect. Attached you find a screen shot. After connecting
to a server with the tool, the properties dialog looks like this.

Greetings from Hamburg, Stefan

Great but is LDAP Administrator able to fetch the schema from ApacheDS ?

Very cool! Stefan thanks for making sure we worked with this client. I
need to start playing with this tool. It sounds like a good tool with
many features.

Yes it is. It works without any issue (at least derived from my
experiences).

To be more precise, it works without any issue since DIREVE-227 has been
fixed. See
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIREVE-227
for details.

Hi Stefan,

working late, I see ;)

I have a question for you, which is not related to Softera, but address
your as an experienced Ldap fellow.

Are DN like "ou=test+ou=test2,cn=whatever,..." allowed ?

Thanks a lot for any answer. ( but a "NO" would be very cool ;)

Hello folks,

I just have a suggestion for the vendorVersion attribute format that you
use. Now it's something like this: $Rev: 123456. For many people subversion
revision number is meaningless and says nothing. Furthermore revision number
exceeds 2^16, so it cannot be fit into Int16 which we use internally. Of
course we can switch to using Int32 instead of Int16, but anyway I suggest
something more standard like major.minor.revison.build which is in your
case, for example, would be '0.9.3.123456'. Such approach allows people that
have no idea of subversion revision to identify server version easily.

Sincerely yours,

Hi Kirill,

Thanks again for adding the server detection for Apache! Btw., the
functionality for the Tivoli servers (I checked 5.1, 5.2 and 6.0) works
as well.

+1 for this one. Good idea.

Kirill, how about raising an issue at JIRA (issue type == "improvement",
for instance)? You may just copy your suggestion into the description.

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIREVE

Thanks you in advance,
Stefan

Good thing.

Emmanuel can surely confirm but with the current Twix that should not work
as expected, I got problems when I tested it.

Sorry, but as I don't have a W$ "system" at home, it's quite difficult
to test this excellent piece of work (Softera kills !)

Hey, Softera's guy, just go Linux ! It rocks ! And I like your product
too...

For your information, Jérôme, Twix is actually being under re-
construction, so you will have to wait a few days before being able to
use it again with more chance of success

Hi Jerome!

As Emmanuel described it is more our problem than one of Softerra. If
you still have difficulties with schema fetching (after the
reconstruction of the Twix provider, Emmanuel mentioned), please verify,
whether it works with JXplorer or the little JNDI test program I
attached to JIRA (http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIREVE-227)

Thanks, Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Sure this is not Softerra's problem. I would say it is not only with
Softerra but also with JNDI and JLDAP and described in DIRLDAP-56
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/DIRLDAP-56

Regards,
Jerome
