Author [VOTE] Another release (0.9.2) before we introduce OSGi

Hi all,

Was wondering if people would like to have another release before we
make way for an OSGi container changes. This would be a predominantly
bug fix release without very many features. It may however include
Emmanuels enhanced berlib for LDAP.

[] +1 let's release apacheds 0.9.2
[] 0 don't care
[] -1 no let's not release yet

Thanks,
Alex

+1

Also, are there any plan to move to a more recent MINA version like
0.9 ? I'm working on my LDAP Proxy server based on the ideas you gave
me (LdapProtocolProvider and handlers) and I realized that mina-0.9
brings many changes.

Is there any schedule for this release?

I vote +1, but it could be very cool to include as much improvment as
possible (like MINA 0.9, all the bug fix we had, and if possible -
depending on the schedule - the new Ber Codec)

[+1] +1 let's release apacheds 0.9.2
[ ] 0 don't care
[ ] -1 no let's not release yet

Comments:

I'll always vote to release, but it does seem odd to vote with a "may
include berlib" hanging there. Again, no issues with the new berlib,
but rather the principle of voting for something that "may" include
something else.

Also, I'm not opposed to MINA 0.9, but it does mean a MINA release and
then updates to the LDAP and Kerberos providers now that they ship with
Directory. Probably not a ton of work, but if I should be scheduling
Kerberos work for MINA 0.9 I'd like to know.

Jerome,

Forgive me for not having the right characters in your name . MINA
0.9 according to Trustin has not solidified yet. So for a quick bug fix
release we'll probably bump up to a MINA 0.7.4 which Trustin should
release soon.

Alex

Nothing at the moment other than the JIRA roadmap we have out there.

Well to answer these questions which I have been thinking about lately
MINA 0.7.4 should go out in this 0.9.2 release just to get something
stable and usable out there to people with all these new features that
were added in the 0.9 branch.

I'm starting to think that another 0.9.3 branch can be done with the new
ber codec immediately after this one. Then we can have some rapid bug
fix releases to correct any issues we might find with it.

Likewise for OSGi when we make such big feature changes we should try to
isolate one major change with the release. It really does not matter
how many times we release.

Yah I hear ya. Let's just push the new codec back to a 0.9.3 release
then and isolate it within that release.

No we should try to avoid bumping up to MINA 0.9 for now. Let's just go
with the next stable bugfix release that Trustin is planning, 0.7.4, on
the road towards a stable 0.8 release.

Trustin how close is 0.7.4 to being a stable release. In otherwords how
close is 0.7.4 to 0.8?

Thanks,
Alex

If it contains bug releases then it's a good idea to release it now.
It's been a month or so since the last release?

[X] +1 let's release apacheds 0.9.2

[] -1 no let's not release yet

+1

From my point of view, the resolved defects since the last release sum
up to an evidently better user experience (schema fetching, several
major bugs with basic operations fixed).

I cast +1 vote to release ApacheDS 0.9.2. And I agree with Alex that I need
to release 0.7.4 in line with ApacheDS 0.9.2.

There's one or two issue(s) left for MINA 0.7.4. I'll fire the vote soon if
they are fixed.

Seems like I forgot to vote.
