Apache Directory T-Shirts for LDAPCon
|
|
| Chris Custine 2007-08-06, 7:11 pm |
| I have created a basic T-Shirt design for the Apache Directory project if
anyone wants to check them out.
For the time being I decided to stick with a basic design with the ASF logo
and the Directory logo, but if you guys want to see more detail or something
specific we still have plenty of time to figure it out and have some printed
before LDAPCon. This online shirt printer (Printfection) is only a few
miles from me, so I get them printed and delivered in less than a few days
with no shipping cost. I am hosting them on my personal store for now but I
have no markup on the shirts so the prices listed are the cost for small
quantity orders.
I am planning on ordering around 10 to take with me to LDAPCon for all of
the project members who are there so if we all agree on a design and you let
me know your size preference I will wash them and bring some with me so that
they are ready to wear.

Very nice! My only comment for an improvement would be to adjust the
URL to directly reference http://directory.apache.org (instead of the
'www').

| That is basically part of the Apache Software Foundation logo, but you are
right in that we need our URL on it somewhere. I will add that tonight.
Thanks for the suggestion!

| Hi Chris,
this is a cool T-shirt. I would just suggest that the tree should be
more centered ( the tree is on the left of the text).

| Hi Everyone,
I updated the shirts with some of the suggestions that were made so here are
the URL's if you want to take a look.
Men's T-Shirt:
http://www.printfection.com/organic...hirt/_p_1266193
Ladies T-shirt:
http://www.printfection.com/organic...hirt/_p_1266796
Long Sleeve T-Shirt:
http://www.printfection.com/organic...hirt/_p_1266191
I have ordered one shirt as a test print and I will post pictures of it when
I receive it. For those of you that are going to Kóln, I will take orders
from everyone and have them printed and bring them with me. Everyone seems
to like the Blue Dusk color on the men's short sleeve shirt, but that color
is not available in long sleeve or women's styles, so I made them available
in black and navy blue just to be consistent.
Thanks,
Chris

Looks great! Directory URL positioning came out great.

| Hi Chirs,
this is better with the URL and TripleSec/Studio/Server list.
I'm still puzzled by the uncentered tree, but I may be a little bit
rigid in my mind ... Was it intentional ?

| Hi,
I think they look great!
And about the uncentered tree, it's already in our logo, isn't it?

| Hi Everybody,
I can do it either way, but like Ersin said, I was just reproducing the logo
that is on our web site and I thought that was the official logo. From a
branding perspective, you do not want variations of the logo, so we need to
pick one style or the other and use it everywhere because layout and
location is part of the logo and these two options are technically
different.
I didn't know that it was an option to have it centered, but personally I
actually like the tree off center just a bit anyway since it gives a bit of
extra personality. I am OK with either approach though and as long as we
decide in the next few days I can still change it before I make a large
order.

| Hi all,
we also have variants of the logo with a centered text in cwiki
(http://cwiki.apache.org/DIRxPMGT/ap...one-images.html)

I do.
But it is not your fault. As far as I know there is no official logo at
all, which is probably a miss. The real "original" one is yet another,
see the Logo Contest:
http://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/.../Logo+Proposals
The one pointed by Christine and me in cwiki has been created/added
later on in order to have one for slides etc.
Sorry for the inconvenience with creating yet another design. I am
looking forward to order one. And I'll buy you some Kölsch in Cologne.

| Chris,
this is perfect !
I will be very pleased to buy one navy with long sleeves, and one
black with short leaves, XL. Pam will certainly buy some too.
Let gather the orders and see if we can have a price for more than 1 t-shir=
t !

Along the same lines, is the 'S' in TripleSec (vs. Triplesec) upper-
or lower-case? Again this isn't "Chris' fault" but it is inconsistent
across the website, the T-shirt has it lowercase, and then I noticed
Emmanuel used "TripleSec" in his email. IMO, I think it should be
capitalized.
I hadn't really noticed, but the centered tree does look better.

| It doesn't really matter to me, but I went off of the Triplesec web site
which shows it as Triplesec everywhere I could see.

| Yep things have been inconsistent all over because different people have
capitalized
Triplesec differently. I think Triplesec is fine and what was initially put
forward when
it was named so.
