Here the equivalent of "Caller Redirect" is provided free. I am not
sure how long it continues, but telcos always offer it whenever one
terminates service. Nowadays I just transfer my old numbers to VoIP
when I move.

This type of thing seems to reflect a difference in philosophy. Mail
forwarding from the USPS is free for a year. The Royal Mail charge
thirty something pounds for quarter. Then again, the USPS will also
pass ones new address to anyone who asks. This makes it easier for the
IRS, Immigration, and if need be the FBI, etc to keep up with one!
