Call diversion to a foreign number
|
|
| r_mervart 2005-08-07, 5:45 pm |
| I apologise if the answer to my question is the general knowledge.
Call diversion on the normal PSTN is done by the Telco (NTL in my case) and
so I cannot save on the second leg of the call because I cannot route it
over the alternative telecomm service providers ( Call 1899, Telediscount
etc). How does this work with VoIP? Would I make a saving if I could and
did divert calls to a foreign country landline or mobile number, in
particular Czech republic?
Thanks

Depends how much traffic you are expecting.. voipfone.co.uk charge 2.3p
a min to Czech Republic...or you can buy minutes and its 1p per min.
You can then divert landline to the 056 number they provide... Or get
people to call the 056 number

Interestingly, I was hoping to add a South African tel number to my
"simultaneous ring" list of numbers on vonage. The call via Vonage to SA
would be cheaper than picking up calls on my UK mobile whilst there.
Unfortunately, Vonage don't let you add non-UK numbers to the "simultaneous
ring" list.
I am sure there are others who will tell you their favoured voip provider
does do this ... and so begins another playground argument <g>

What I need is an option to divert calls made to my UK number (possibly new
VoIP number) to my standard Czech Telecom landline number while I am there.
I do not have broadband in Czech republic.

Yes, i understand this.
I am saying if you topup with voipfone.co.uk, put £10 on.......You will
be issued a 05600 number, divert your landline calls to this...Costing
same as standard call on landline (i think) 5.5p for a hour in the
evening / weekend.
Then Divert your 056 number to your number in Czech Republic... voipfone
will charge 2.3p a min.
I'm not sure how much BT charge for a straight divert to Czech Rep...
But this is probably checper

I am on NTL and they charge 20p/min at any time for calls to Czech landline
(40p/min mobile) and so that would be cost to me for the direct divert plus
£1.75/month for the divert facility. On my basic tariff NTL charges to me
for UK calls 3/2/1 p/min so adding 2.3p/min. would make it cheaper than
diverting direct.
Thanks

Also, you can buy minutes £4.99 for 500, £9.99 for 1000..etc... So it's
only 1p per min.
Make sure you can dial the 056 numbers from NTL... Email me if you wish
to try my number. (remove NOSPAM)

Well regarding all that about charges not being credited back I signed
up a couple of weeks previous to signing up for good and then
canceled due to the box I got from Staples being faulty and had no
more in stock at that time so could not use the service . I received
my refund back to the card within 72 hours of phoning them maybe they
have sorted out the refund side of things since this guy had the
hassle and yes I am still 100% happy also Stefan .

Exactly. Sipgate have plenty of satisfied customers also, I'm not the only
one you know ;-)
You always hear more from the moaners (cue Dex and the other one who's now
in my killfile)

Sipgate seems a good CHEAP service. To me... Limited services... Cheap
Calls.
Took 50 seconds before PSTN calls would ring out earlier.
Takes about 5 normally. Whereas most other providors i have used ring
straight away.

It stands to reason. There must be thousands of users on the system and
only a handful post here. Or do you think there are only 20 or so

No, I haven't tried them but I have heard plenty of bad press about them
and very little good stuff so I don't have a very high opinion of them.
Happy to be proven wrong however.
> You base your deluded comment on what excatly Mike
You either have a very controntational attitude or you have taken my
comment the wrong way. The OP wanted a way to divert calls and I simply
suggested one that I use and know works. The choice is then down to
them. You then leapt in shouting the odds about how Vonage will still be
around in 10 years.
I suspect in ten years time neither outfit will be around in their
current form or ownership and technology will have advanced. For
example, I'm certainly not using the same type of Internet connection
today as I was 10 years ago. I have a different supplier and technology.
I strongly suspect that in ten years time my supplier and connectivity
will again be totally different.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then your viewpoint and opinion is definitely heavily
biased and this should be taken into account.
For the record: I have no affiliation or investment in any company other
than my own small IT support business. My views and opinions are based
on my own personal experience and are not coloured by monetary
investment or other financial involvement in products and services that
I may from time to time make mention of or recommend.

my view point is based on my experience with vonage so far, yes i have
shares but so what i also have shares in bt,telecom plus plc and may others
and yet i dont actually use their services so its hardly biased now is it
towards just vonage

hes involved somehow no doubt about that, like im a shareholder in vonage
now, albeit a small one, i freely admit that yet ivor jones relishes the fact
that were all still guessing about his financial interests in crapgate

It is whilst in a VOIP newsgroup you are are promoting their service.
Telecom Plus (Utility Warehouse) don't as far as I am aware have a VOIP
product so that is irrelevant.
BTW, I'm finding it hard to take you seriously with your constant change
of ID, your attitude, spelling & grammar. None of this squares with the
image you are trying to present of someone who has enough disposable
income to spare 2k+ on high risk share investments. I think you are just
a troll.

Looks like I was wrong regarding you getting shut before I do Sean it
also looks like someone we all know who publicly states he has no
influence or status regarding Sipgate has been in touch with the inner
sanctum of Sipgate at some point recently look what I received this
morning ......................... .

I have been informed that you are dissatisfied with our service and
are only staying with us until your credit runs out. I have decided
that if you like, I will make an exception in your case and refund
your money to your credit card and close your accounts. Please let me
know if this is something you wish to do.
Best regards,
Steve Mancour .
