I have subscribed to this newsgroup to learn and contribute about VOIP
- not to have to read all this petty bickering between certain people.

I agree entirely. But it's not always possible to ignore personal insults.
Please feel free to ask if there is any way I can assist.

Yeah, too right!
When I first joined the group it was an informative and valuable
resource. Now I find that virtually every genuine thread is hijacked by
these offensive persons. It's got to the point where I don't even open 90
per cent or more of the postings, because I know what they will contain!
So come on guys, show some maturity; have respect for others; have the
decency to stop this abuse; apologise to the group; and let us benefit
from your knowledge and experience in a positive way - in the true ethos
of the newsgroup community.
If the slanging matches don't disappear pretty soon, I will. I will not
suffer fools gladly!
Respectfully and sincerely,
Alan.

I agree entirely. However, when one is personally attacked I hope you will
agree it is not always possible to remain silent. Personally, I have been
far more reserved than I would like to be, for the reasons you specify.

Again, agreed. I hope that I have, apart from a few lapses as mentioned
above, done so.

That would be a pity.

No it isn't <g>
You're right of course. For some reason various parties have entrenched
themselves in the Sipgate/Vonage camp and believe no-one else has a valid
opinion.
Still, the schools go back soon, maybe it will quiet down when they have
double-maths the next day.

Oh I believe they have a valid opinion, but said validity diminishes every
time some of them open their mouths (or touch their keyboards..!)
As I personally have been brought into this by the opinions of certain
parties, I feel I should comment. Yes I am happy with Sipgate, but despite
what some say I do not promote them to the exclusion of all else. I have
accounts with other providers also but rarely use them as I find Sipgate
suits my needs.
I have been accused of excessively promoting Sipgate due to having
interests in them outside that of being a satisfied customer. Whilst this
is partly true, they are not financial and do not render me privy to
sensitive information that should not be known other than by employees (of
which I am *not* one). Therefore I do not consider it anyone else's
business and I will *not* comment on it further.

We can but hope..!
This is my last word on the subject, as this thread has said, can we leave
it now and get on with the business for which I originally proposed the
creation of this group..?

I heartly agree.
But we have a Troll and a Troll feeder here.
Between the two of them they hijack most posts,
Even posts that they have no knowledge of the issue or solution.
personally Trolls and their feeders are as bad as each other.

can be a challenge with variable (and invalid) "from" addresses
though. Depends on client software.
So far anything posted from blueyonder or ntl would seem a fair target
for screening out.

i dont post to this group much - but how come i get penalised for being in
the same ISP & area as someone you dont like?
FWIW i am biased by what i know (just like everyone else) - and that is
mainly cisco in enterprise style voip systems.

This being the reason for the constantly changing From address. Many
newsreaders can only filter/score on what's in the overview.
Unfortunately NNTP-Posting-Host is not.

sorry, you would be collateral damage if blunt instruments were used
to maintain sanity.
Keep posting and try to restore the average credibility of cable
users.

I apologise. I had looked at many posts to see if there was going to be any
collateral damage. In fact, your last post came through fine with my current
settings....
I am an interested newcomer to VoIP and have had substantial help from this
group. I have no wish to filter out anybody with useful contributions to
make. Also, as you may have surmised, I am new to killfiles! I will narrow
down the filter accordingly and see what 'leaks' through.
