Voipfone to Sipgate

| Hi,
Has anyone managed to ring a Sipgate user from Voipfone ?
I've tried *777 + Sipgate number
for a few days constantly, and just get engaged tone (no, the persons line
isn't engaged !).
Is the peering prefix right ?

AFAIK there isn't a peering agreement between Voipfone and Sipgate. It's
not on the list on Sipgate's website anyway. Does it say there is on the
Voipfone site..? I had a quick look but couldn't see anything obvious.
Just a thought, have you tried **777 rather than a single * - that is the
prefix from FWD and a couple of others.

I have never been able to get to any other voip providers numbers
fromVoipfone FWD or Sipfone but UK 0800 numbers can be rung from any
of them . Voipfone did list those providers they did have peering
arraignments with not sure if they still do .

well vonage do not have the same peering issues as sipgate or any of the
others for that matter

sip:xxxxxxx@sipgate.co.uk then that works from FWD ok - aslo sipgate to FWD
is still working - very strange.

Maybe the line is not engaged; an unobtainable tone is also generated
when a phone is not registered and voicemail is not activated to take
account of this. However, I would strongly doubt the validity of the
prefix.

Where did you obtain it from?
sipgate_number@sipgate.co.uk is another way of making contact.

Must be something to do with the great relationship between the US and
ourselves that our PM and Bush keep going on about Rodger ) US to US
providers works ok I can call my Sipphone number from FWD no problem
and the other was about .

Not that strange really.
**777 from FWD to Sipgate not working implies something is broken at FWD's end.
sip:xxxxxxx@sipgate.co.uk doesn't involve FWD at all so should succeed.
Sipgate to FWD peering working implies Sipgate's setup is functioning.

That's Voipfone's site and Sipgate isn't in the list. It says to ask them
if a network you want isn't listed, worth a try..?

How do you dial that on a phone..?!
BTW Sipgate's network does not generate engaged tone.

Indeed it is Voipfone's website - which is why I posted the link.
Getting them to peer with Sipgate is something a Voipfone user, which I
am not, should persue. Both companies appear to believe in open
networks so an approach to them is worthwhile.

With a softphone you type it in. With some ATAs, for example, a SIpura
2000, use a Speed Dial Setting or put it in the Dial Plan.

I did pursue it sometime ago and Voipfone told me Sipgate systems
where not compatible with theirs or something but I have given the
codes listed on the site a go just now and I could not get my FWD or
Sipphone numbers to respond . I have the feeling I have found two
flows in the Voipfone service tonight ( 1 ) the peering with other
providers I just do not believe exists and have had these thoughts for
sometime and is of little consequence to me personally ( 2 ) a matter
which I am a little annoyed about is that they state 24 hour technical
support what nonsense . I called them a little while ago pressed the
key for tech support and was put through to their switchboard .I asked
the girl if I could be put through to tech support first she asked for
my details then she said email support when I said I have connected to
support during the daytime on this number she started coughing and
spluttering and making all the silly excuses in the world then the
line went dead !! .

Dex you sure you called voipfone lol i have never had a problem getting
through at any time of the day or night
i also asked voipfone about sipgate peering a while ago and they said
that they did use to peer with sipgate but sipgate asked them to remove
it as they are no longer going support wild peering what ever that is

I am surprised to hear that dex they seem to be getting better and
better to me I set up the virtual pbx when they launched it and I
called them to ask a couple of questions I must have been chatting with
the support guy for about 40 minutes he was very helpful he even helped
me set up qos on my router so all my extensions had priority I bet
vonage wont help you configure stuff you aint purchased from them

I just called these peering numbers and all the ones i tested worked
perfectly
Voiptalk *878902 (*878 is the peering number 902 is voiptalks test
number)
Intervivo *488123 (*488 is the peering number 123 talking clock)
FWD *3938502 (*393 is the peering number 8502 is voicemail)
SipPhone *74717474743246 (*747 is the peering number is their echo
test)
Deltathree *333 i couldnt find a number to try this one
Gossiptel *467123 (*467 is the peering number 123 is the talking clock)
Gradwell *472123 (*472 is the peering number 123 is the talking clock)
Musimi *687 I couldn't find a number to try this one

Now don't be classing me has a vonage lover I do not push them at
every given opportunity like Ivor pushes Sipgate I just speak the
plain truth and to date I have not had a hint of trouble with the
Vonage service . Regarding what you have said above there is nothing
really to set up with the Vonage service really it just happens

That is one of the upsides of vonage I must admit but I was asking
Voipfone about hardware yesterday and they told me that they are
launching a plug & go product range next week at some point and they
sent me the link for a preview but I cant find it at the mo but I will
post it when I do but
apparently all their phones and adaptors work in the same was as with
vonage you just plug them in and start making calls only difference is
they are not locked down to any one provider and there is no contract
or penalties when you cancel

ahhh I called them from my snom 190 so I think this brings us back to
your callback problem from a normal phone they work perfectly

Thanks for the other info Mat but I was calling the peering numbers
you gave via a " normal" phone and a Sipura 2000 .
There is something not quite right about this I may set up another
free account and give it another go could be something to do with the
account I have at the moment . If you can call the numbers I and
anyone else should be able to do so .

I see the Sipura 2000 has gone down in price since I bought my two
they where 84.00 each around May of this year Mat.

Can't doing with " fixed" phones Mat sooner be free to move around
that is why I use cordless ones and have the two V lines transferring
to my Voipfone PSTN number after 30 seconds and just slip the phone in
my pocket if I go out to the car or the bathroom etc and I never miss
a call .

i use the snoms in the office but at home i have a sipura with bt dect
phones or should i say the kids have the sipura with bt dect phones :-)

Ha ha kids these days do not know what a good life they have it was a
five minute walk to the phone box with the old buttons A and B when I
was a kid only the rich had phones in their homes in those days .
