| I must say I am well pleased with the plug & go snom 190 I ordered from
Voipfone yesterday.
It arrived today at about 10:30am I took it out of the box plugged in
the network cable plugged in the power and switched it on. So far so
good....
Once the phone had finished starting up within a couple of seconds my
account number came up on the screen and I was making calls no messing
about it was really really simple even for me.
I also want to buy an adaptor for home and quite fancied the Sipura
2000 but it looks like voipfone have sold out does anyone know what the
difference is between the Sipura 2000 and the Sipura 2002?

The 2002 is the replacement for the 2000.

But as he said, what are the differences..? I have a 2000, is there any
reason I should consider a 2002..?

Like I said, more up to date in what respect..? There must be some
differences besides a model name change and a new casing, or why bother..?

More upto date in the respect of its being made to a price, and the 2000 is
soon to be obsolete.
Since the launch of the 2000 the price point for ATAs has dropped dramaticly
and wages and raw materials in the far east has gone up and new chipsets
launched.
So as a supplier you have to cut costs.
The 2000 is supplied under the Vegstream brand that is aimed at the business
market so it may remain there and the sipura keep going with the domestic
kit.
Sipura will need to get an ATA at a pricepoint that Voip service providers
will ship in quantity like the vonage box to remain competative.

But are there any *technical* differences that make it worth the upgrade
to an existing 2000 user, i.e. me..?!

Well what don't you like about the 2000 ? until today you thought it was one
of the best ATAs avalible what has changed ?.
But basicly they are the same AFAICS

I think you're missing the point. I am just asking what differences there
are or what improvements have been made in order that I can decide whether
an upgrade is warranted. There is nothing particularly about the 2000 that
I dislike, it's an excellent unit, but if it has been replaced there must
be a reason.. That may be merely financial on the company's behalf, or
there may be a technical improvement that an existing user would benefit
from.
If the difference is purely cosmetic, i.e. the same basic device in a new
box, then it's not worth bothering with. If it has improvements and new
facilities then it might be.
> But basicly they are the same AFAICS
That answers my question, thanks.

Ahem... they are not the same:
http://voxilla.com/modules.php?op=m...article&sid=161
"....In addition, the SPA-2002 has twice the amount of system memory
as the SPA-2000, which gives Sipura the ability to provide further
enhancements to the device. One enhancement that will use this extra
memory is T.38 support for faxing, which will be available in a later
firmware release."

The word I used was basicly.

I never sell or buy on what will be avalible in a "future" release.
Experiance tells me the "future" sometimes never comes.
At the moment they provide the same functions . Sipura dont even say that
T38 is pending.
At the moment users should buy the 2002 as its the "current" model, for what
it does not what it may do.
