Author Combining BT line and VOIP lines

I have 3 VOIP Lines and a BT landline. I want to combine them into one
integrated system so that it is wired into just one DECT Base station
(preferably with distinctive rings)

Can anyone suggest a device that is able to do the job?

I am new to telephony and VOIP. Sorry if I am asking a stupid question.

Regards

Hi Edward,

Firstly, how are you accessing your 'VOIP lines'? Ie. What
hardware/software are you using?

I been wonderiong the same thing, also if it is possible to make certain
calls though a BT line, via the same phone.

Yes it is possible (albeit with only 2 VOIP ports)

Take a look at the Speedtouch 716

The way I do it, which I admit may be overkill for most domestic users, is
to use a PABX. I have an internal exchange here which is wired to all the
phones in the house and all the lines, both BT and VoIP are cabled into
it. I can then access any line from any phone by dialling a specific
access code, for example 81 for Line 1, 82 for Line 2 etc. (Dialling the
usual '9' picks a line at random, which isn't always what you want..!) For
incoming calls, each line is configured to ring a specific phone, but
calls on any line can be answered on any phone.

The other (and probably cheaper..!) way is to use an ATA with a PSTN
connection. The one I use is the Fritz!Box Fon from AVM, details here:
www.avm.de/en. It combines the functions of an ADSL modem, router and ATA
and also has a PSTN port so you can accept incoming calls on any VoIP line
and make calls on them or the PSTN line.

Can you specifically decide to route a particular call over the PSTN..? I
think the OP wanted to do this.

Yes you can set this in the sipuras dial plan some people for example
will want to me able to make 999 calls so you can add it in to the dial
plan so that when 999 or any specified number is called it can be
called through pstn and not voip i do use the 3000 at home but i am not
an expert on dial plans but i am sure somone in this group will be able
to post some examples

Yes I understand about dial plans, but personally I like to be able to
decide on a call by call basis which line I want to use. I can obviously
do this with my PABX but can the Sipura do this, with a prefix code, for
example..? The Fritz!Box Fon that I also have has this capability.

Thanks Daviey.

I am currently using my VOIP phones using two cisco ATA 188. Each line is
attached to a Philip DECT base station with 4 handsets in total. Each
handset is configured to received from all the different base stations. You
can imagine this is quite clumsy!

BT Broadband Voice allows the new router you get with it to be connected to
the phone line as well.

That way you can pick up normal phoneline of VoIP line calls via the port
on the router, and then for outgoing calls press "5" (or any prefix) and
make the call over the normal line if you wish, or to pick up 1571 on the
normal line etc.

If you plug a DECT base station into the phone port on the 220v router you
would get all incoming calls on your DECT handsets.

Yes indeedy, this is possible with dial plans. check out the sticky dial
plan thread on the sipura forum on voxilla.com for all the different configs
you can do. its a long read but well worth it if you want to see what the
3000 is capable of.

Tha is a bit of an overkill, but it may be fine for a mate of mine who
is looking at VOIP.
