| I've recently installed Skype with WMe, which is not officially
supported (though I've seen reports on Usenet that it works). Seems to
be OK, except that my voice is very distorted (I can hear the incoming
call fine). I'm using b/band, & have 192 MB of RAM.
I've checked all the mike settings in the Control Panel, & they're set
as per the Skype Help files. Any suggestions as to what I might be
doing wrong?

I would advise you to give this a go http://www.google.com/talk/ .. See
if that's any better .. I think it's great personally

try www.voipfone.co.uk works with
=B7 Processor: Pentium II 300 (or equivalent)
=B7 Memory: 128 MB RAM
=B7 Operating System: Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, or XP or Apple Mac

| Sign up for the Skype forum on their homepage. People can help you to solve
your problems. I found this more helpful then switching voip provider.

| Thanks for the replies. I'm fairly convinced that it's something to do
with speed at which my outgoing data stream is transmitted (sorry: this
probably isn't expressed correctly). Is there some tweaking I can do
to the b/band settings?
After all, people have reportedly used Skype successfully with dialup &
less memory than I have!
Could there be a conflict with my ZoneAlarm firewall? I've seen some
mention of this; but disabling ZA doesn't seem to improve things much.

| Try deleting (cut past somewehre else, easier to put it back) the skype
config.xml file. Skype will automatically make a new one. I do this on a
regular basis, to get good connection. You can find the file C:\douments and
settings'your username'\application data(hidden folder)\skype if I am
correct.
But really try the forum, some good helpful people.

Thanks -- I tried that, but it made no difference.

Yes, I've had a look at that, & may return.
In the meantime, I wonder if it's possible to download an older version
of Skype (eg 1.2.0.37). It may not have all the bells & whistles --
but then OTOH it might work on my system!
It's quite clear that Skype don't want anyone to use older versions,
but is there an archive somewhere out there -- or would some kind
person send me a copy of the .exe file?
