I bought my 486 ATA a few months ago. I connected an old Geemarc phone
to it with an RJ11 cable. I had no problems at all - the phone rang, and
I could make calls. I have since replaced the phone with a BT phone
using the same RJ11 cable - and I don't even get a dial tone. The phone
is 100% working on the BT line however. Through my own trouble shooting,
I've found that the Geemarc phone only works on the BT line using it's
own RJ11 - BT cable - and not with any other one (I tried 4 from various
phones / modems). Basically, I need an RJ11 cable that will make the BT
phone work with my ATA - what exactly am I looking for? The RJ11 cable I
used was just a standard RJ11 cable for ADSL - no ring capacitor.

If you are wondering why I have swapped phones - it's simply because
the Geemarc phone matches my newly decorated hall better than the BT
phone.

usually people leave the phone cable alone and put a BT socket to RJ11
plug adaptor into the ATA.

example. Solwise is another source.
