Author SIP phone or POTS phone w adaptor?

Hi All

Can anyone tell me why I might be better off with a SIP phone rather
than getting an adaptor and my choice of POTS phone? Looking at what's
available the adaptor+POTS phone route appears to be cheaper / more
flexible. Or am I missing something?

TIA

Nothing that I can think of, who told you otherwise..?

The only advantages I can see to a dedicated IP phone is portability, i.e.
if you wanted to take one on trips and plug it in at your destination,
rather than mucking about with an ATA and a separate phone.

Some business-oriented IP phones will also handle up to 4
accounts/numbers, whereas most ATA's are limited to two. There are 4-port
ATA's available, but they cost several arms and legs..!

I like the flexibility of an ATA, I have the analogue outputs of mine fed
into my PABX as "exchange" lines so any extension on the system can use
them.

why take two boxes into the shower if you only need one ? (as it
were). Less clutter and wires, one PSU instead of two.

If your sole need is a fixed wired phone to sit on a desk, then the
SIP phone suits. With an ATA you can change your mind about the phone
or go DECT or whatever.
