With no strings attached, this is the promotion of the year from a VOIP
carrier called voicestick.com. You can even get a free soft phone."

What a great way to talk to business or loved ones in the USA

What they offer is similar to Stanaphone (who also give fax-in).
Voicestick DO offer more choice in selecting an incoming number - you
can choose your incoming UK geo number. I'll try one out.

No I think the UK number is $1.99 US a month, what I was talking about
was free to get a USA number. Point of this is lets say you have family
in the USA, get a number in THEIR local area, so they can call without
having any long distance call at all.

I still have a Stanaphone number (they did away with the free FAx in (see
wildgate.com) Big problem for me is that the Stanaphone number is only in
NY. I lve in Calif. (Wish I did not)

The USA number is limited in what you can do, but for some it could be
the best blessing.

Regaurds to all.

Spamming was probably going on before you where born Sue and will
continue to go on no matter what you or Ivor may say ,you should
close your eyes to it and just carry on .

What a defeatist attitude from a so called fighter.
If everyone ignored spam, it would be 100 times worse in 6 months

Strange how he doesn't close his eyes (or his mouth) to Sipgate, given
that he hasn't even been a customer of theirs for several months.

0870's and Sipgate strictly speaking have nothing to do with the
Internet Paul one is a useless voip provider and the others are a
range of very expensive telephone numbers .
People have been complaining about spam since I first knew what the
internet was and it hasn't made one bit of difference so why bother.

Complaining about Sipgate isn't going to make the slightest difference to
you or them either, so why bother..?

Ivor

No but it may stop other's people from making the same BIG mistake
that I did Ivor which came very close to totally disillusioning me
regarding the usefulness of voip telephony completely, but for someone
in uk.telephone recomending voipfone.co.uk to me since when I have
discovered that it is only Sipgate that is not worth wasting an ATA
and a phone on .

It's not just you, but I didn't draw the same conclusion. It's not
that I investigated and found anything different. It's just that my
notion of spam in general is unsolicited commercial email, and in
Usenet, that would have to be something off topic. Since it's related
to VOIP and was not trying to sell anything, this seems like a place to
go to discuss it. But it's a subjective thing and I can understand why
some would get angry about it. I'm assuming that the person meant to
"spam" the message but thought that this was a legitimate (read: non
spam) place to post it.

I downloaded it today, and so far have mixed feelings about it. So far,
I'm sticking with the free part, and have read scary things about
disconnect fees for the paid part. I used a credit card that allows me
to generate virtual numbers with dollar and time limits for this sort
of transaction, so if they try charging me, they won't get very far.

Yes, it would be better to get this sort of thing from somebody who is
not posting for the sake of promotion, but if it generates honest
feedback, then readers will know the bad as well as the good about it.

In the mean time, I have a free number. Caller ID and voice mail work
fine, and I get my voice mail through email, and that works too. I'm
not sure if I'll be leaving their software running on my PC for the
time being, but at least I have a phone number and mailbox that can be
used to get messages when I travel.

I signed up through another website, and got a code in my email that
gives me a $5 credit. But the code did not work. So I won't be trying
the other parts for a while. I'd mention the website but the code did
not work, and I don't want to seem as if I'm spamming ;-0
