The SIP protocol is becoming more and more popular because of its
flexibility. Mobile phone manufacturers are starting to integrate it in
their handsets, this is exactly what nokia has done on the E65 and N95
which are 100% compatible SIP.

Because they also support 802.11 WiFi communications, you can set those
phones to switch to your SIP provider when you're in an area covered by
WiFi. This means you can make phone calls from your mobile phone even if
this one is locked on a network to any destination in the world at the
cost of a regular VoIP service.

This also means you can be traveling with your phone anywhere in the
world, and be reached on your SIP phone number at no extra cost. Again
the outgoing phone calls you make are not charged more if you make them
in Europe, in the US or Antarctica.

Digitrad has developed a VoIP platform called Stand4u which lets you do
exactly that. They have a softphone called Eggee behaving more or less
like Skype but with extra business orientated services such as desktop
sharing.
