| You need a router with built in VoIP and QoS (quality of service).
Then you just set the QoS to prioritize VoIP packets.
E.g. Draytek Vigor routers 2700V or 2800V, Zyxel 2602HW/L, or FritzBox! and
others.

Martin

But beware about whether those boxes can do anything about downloadiing.

The one that says "Re: Voip - for home use - no good if..."?
The Subject is supposed to be a summary for the message, so that we can
decide whether (or not) to read it, not part of the message itself.
Cheers,
Chris

Yes.

Nevertheless, if the subject line is read, it does make sense.

Now I understood what the OP was saying, but WTF are you trying to say?

Some Qos devices only work in the uploading direction.
Others can slow down TCP acknowledgements and other tricks to help on
the download side of things.

I think what he was trying to say is that the QoS on certain routers is
usually applied to the upstream packets, so in effect is pretty useless
at giving priority to downstream VOIP packets. But I could be wrong.

i meant the bandwidth issue - blimey - thought that was obvious !
thanks for the sensible replies
ivor - i was concerned if i'm downloading the world at 100% bandwidth how
would voip be able to get a look in
didnt realise the ability of voip routers to guarantee enough to make it
workable
you live and you learn !
