Anyone know what's happening to voip.co.uk?
|

| Based on positive remarks from posters here, I'm in the process of trying to
sign up with voip.co.uk - but apparently they changed the rules on 1st
August - but *didn't* change their website to match, so I'm having great
difficulty in finding out what is really on offer.
Apparently you no longer get the first phone number for free - you have to
pay a £2 setup fee for *every* number, and you can no longer buy a year's
worth of 'UK option' for £20 - and can only buy it on a £2 per month basis.
Heaven only knows what else has changed! The relevant page of their website
is: http://www.voip.co.uk/res_products.html but when you actually sign up,
it an't quite like what it says.
For starters, you can't actually sign up on line - clicking on the Signup
button just brings up a page inviting you to send them an email or phone
them during office hours.
Once you've sent the required email, they create a 'basic' account for you
and send you the logon details so that you can customise it. That's not too
bad except that if you don't understand what some of the options mean, it
tells you to click the Help button at the top right. When you do that,
instead of displaying explanatory text, you get a dialogue screen inviting
you to send them a trouble ticket!
Anyone know what's going on? If this is one of the 'better' voip companies,
what are the rest like?

| Not sure whats going on there! They also say on that page its 5p a min
@ weekend for mobiles, another page on their site says it's 7p.
Looks like they have temporarily disabled automatic sign ups on their
site..... maybe having some security/ database problems.
Maybe email them or call them?.... Or sign up for another supplier.....

Try ringing and speaking to Chris, great guy.

Thanks. I actually already have a dialogue going with him on the ticketing
system, and I now find that he has replied to some of my questions - but his
reply hadn't also appeared as an email, so I didn't see it.
Seemingly they are in the process of re-jigging their offerings and
shouldn't really be signing up new customers until the process is complete -
so I'm sort of caught in the transition. Hopefully it will shortly sort
itself out.

Nah...
voipcheap.com gets my vote.
I use them for all 01, 02, 07 numbers daily from our shop.

I use them too. 01&02 effectivly free as long as you don't go over
300min/week
(which I never do) and the UK mobile calls we make (6.5ppm inc), nicely
bottoms
out the 11.60 euro (inc) credit at about 90 days. If I could only get VM
here, I
would ditch my BT line and pay nothing else, as my company pay for my
broadband.

Doesn't look too good
* Max 300 minutes per week of free calls, measured over the last 7
days and per unique IP address. Unused free minutes cannot be taken to
the following week(s). If limit is exceeded the normal rates apply
which are .8p pm.
on voip they are free or 2p connection, dependent on time of day up to
60mins, then just reconnect as often as you like. So how is voipcheap
better?

Very easy to do here. That's the total of free minutes to all numbers
as well, so I could do that in two days!

Isn't 18185 cheaper at 6ppm?

If you are thinking of Virgin Media then don't go ditching anything or
you'll regret it.

2p is 2 p and 300 minutes = 5 hours Paula and I certainly do not spend
5 hrs a week on the phone during the daytime and providing you stick
within the 5 hrs you still keep your original credit providing you do
not make none geo calls. I have the ukvoip yearly UK bundle at 20.00
for the year plus voipcheap at 40.00 for the year , at just over
£1.00 a week for all calls and line rental including internationa
calls for a whole year this is an ideal combination .

Why ? nothing wrong with my VM commection I have the XL 20 Mb and get
speeds just in excess of 20 Mb the voip calls are great over the VM
connection but I do know that it all depends on where you live
regarding the service you get with VM. This is my 3rd contract with VM
telewest Blueyonder call them what you will and for once I am more
than satisfied with the service and do not intend leaving again soon
providing I keep getting the service I am getting now .

Compare the UK mobile rate.
voipcheap.com 6.5ppm at all times
voip.co.uk 5/10/15ppm depending on the time of day.
The way I look at it, I pre-pay voipcheap for my mobile calls
and get my landline calls free. I don't make many international
calls, but most of the destinations I am likely to call are free
anyway.
Despite there being two separate handsets on the service,
we would be hard pressed to exceed the 300min/week
limit. It's not used for business.

Yep.
I have just dumped my cable from VM after 7 years long and happy service
- It's apalling now, borders on impossible to use most of the day!
Had a fresh new BT line installed and have just signed up to UKonline as
I'm <250 metres from LLU exchange.
VM is cancelled on the 17th and ADSL goes live on the 15th.
May well go back to cable once VM is sold off if whoever buys it
significantly invests in updating the network and the hole operation,
but as it stands, VM has to be one of the worst ISPs in the UK.

I don't understand why you have left and re-joined so many times!
The current status of the network is far less than capable of supporting
the amount of users currently subscribed since they bundled the ex
NTL, ex-Blueyonder, and ex-virgin.net customers together sharing parts
of the same network.
As I said, I may well be back, but it wont be until huge investment has
been made into bring the network up to the required level.

As others have said Paula, It depends on your usage.
If you make more than 5 hours worth of calls to regular geographical
numbers and very few calls to mobiles then 2p per unlimited call would
be better.
For my use, we have 2 lines on the same voipcheap.com account in my
shop and I use the same account for calls from home.
Because 99% of our customers are contacted by mobile phone,
voipcheap.com gives by far the cheapest rates so our account is
regularly topped up which means All 01 and 02 numbers dialed from the
shop or home are free as we never exceed 5 hours a week.
Everything depends on your own personal telephone usage pattern as to
which solution is best for you though.

It isn't unlimited, it is for up to an hour on voip.co.uk

Hi,
I know of connections that are never less than 24/7 max.
Never slows down; never anything - just solid 24/7 (when up - and downtime
seems limited).

Hi,
And whilst not quite the same subject...
.... not unlimited on 1899 / 18866 / 18185 (etc. or whatever they are)...
they seem to always cut at 3 hours.
Best wishes,
