Migrating external Windows 2000 DNS server to Red Hat linux DNS server

| Hi,
We are running an external DNS Windows 2000 DNS server and want to replace that with a RedHat linux 9 DNS server.
Can anybody give me a hint where to start or any documentation regarding the same?
Are there issues with the interaction of the internal DNS clients with a linux based server, the internal environment is totally Windows based and we are running messaging systems based on Exchange 2000.
I do have a similar Linux server in the environment running at another site, what are the files I am looking for to configure a similar environment in my local site. Thanks in advance. | |

| Assuming your using active directory with DNS, DHCP, WINS, and Exchange. If you migrate way from DNS on the Win2x architecture you'll lose alot of the integration ie: Dynamic DNS.
Your best bet is to keep the same architecture but use Linux as your top level DNS and point your Win2x servers to the Linux boxes.
But past that migrating to Linux DNS is straightforward and easier to manage than all the MS special records and configurations. |
