Setting up a Static IP address
|
|
|
| Hi,
I am running Suse Pro 9.1. I have running Apache 2 on it. I have
a linksys router and a cable Internet connection.
Right three of my computers are obtaining IP addresses automatically.
I want to set up my Suse computer with a static IP address so that
I can do port forwarding with my router. Can someone please tell
me how to get my computer a static IP address?
Thanks
Nick

When I did this, I turned off DHCP on the router and gave each PC it's own
static address. 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101, etc and to do that on your
Suse machine you need to go into Yast2, network card and enter the address
manually. Hope this helps. I think you have to enter the address of the
gateway, too. I'd have a look, but I'm on a Windows machine atm.

The default settings for most Linksys routers start the DHCP addresses at
192.168.1.100 so make sure your fixed IP is 192.168.1.xx where xx is 01-99.
Then just go into Yast and click on network and configure your card to use a
fixed ip.
You might have to put a gateway address which should be 192.168.1.1.
That should do it.

Just configure the NIC to use a static IP, instead of DHCP. One thing you
have to do, is make sure the address used is not one covered by the range
of addresses issued by the DHCP server in the router.

| Just use YAST! Under network adapters use static ipadress instead of DHCP!
