mod_status puts too much of load on server?

I would like to enable mod_status extended on my server, but have read that
it would put a load on the server. Question is, is this true and how much of
a load would it place. Obviously, serving pages quickly must come first.

Does anyone know if software that outputs a graphical interface of server
processes, etc.?
