Author Ignoring basic authentication info in header

Hi

we've got a web-service hosted in a J2EE container, where the service
requires authentication for access. We're using basic authentication to
achieve this.

The authentication takes place in the j2ee server itself. The j2ee server
is fronted by apache to present a nice URL, but when clients access the
web-service through the exposed apache URL, apache is attempting to
authenticate using the information in the header. It fails after approx
6-10 seconds and passes the message on to the web service in the j2ee server
which authenticates and does its processing.

What we need to do here is have apache ignore the authentication in the
header - is there any way to do this?

Thanks
Rich
