configuring new version of Apache on Redhat 9

| Hi,
I have Redhat 9 with Apache 2.0.40 and I need to update it to 2.0.44 or
later to support installing mod_ftpd.
How do I go about installing it as a service in Redhat 9 as apache2 keeping
the existing httpd service so I can back track if necessary ?
Many thanks in advance,
Aaron

I'd say, don't use rpm to install it, install from sources and then
change manually the init script to look/run a different binary in a
different position (/usr/local instead of /usr). But this hasn't really
anything to do with Apache. Is more a RH problem.

Yes, I suppose I can just duplicate the scripts under the name apache2 and
modify all the references.
I was hoping for a bit more detail on how to do this

Yes I realize that. I thought someone may have does the same thing on this
newsgroup, so thought it was worthwhile posting the question here.
