Author problem with virtual hosts and mysql - can't use mysql.sock

Hello All,

I had apache-perl/php-mysql working well with the scripts connecting to
the mysql database on localhost through mysql.sock.

When I started doing the same thing using virtual hosts, I got errors
stating that the script could not connect to mysql.sock errno(13)

I changed all of the scripts to connect to the hostname instead of
localhost and they work.

My concern is that the performance will be less.

Is there some difference in how apache calls the scripts or resolves
localhost? I've checked the perms on the files, scripts, script alias, etc
and I have the database users define in mysql as both user@localhost and
user@hostname

Again, this problem occurs using virtual hosts.

ps - I am using a CNAME in my dns maps for the virtual host name also.
