Native suexec in Apache 2.2

I must have read somewhere, without taking note of the source, that
Apache 2.2 should have a native kind of suexec. My understanding was
that Apache should or might start a separate 'thread' (as opposed to
'process') with user priviledges, and not only for CGI's.
If so, that would solve the eternal problem of shared hosting.

What do you think?
