Author mod_rewrite help kindly requested - forward all dirs with a specific name to 404

Hello apache.conf group. I know this might be a bit much to ask for in
a public forum, but I haven't had luck finding the specific info I need
via Google/readmes/etc. I know how to block a directory, redirect a
directory, but I'm having problems working with catch-alls/*'s.

I am trying to come up with mod_rewrite code that'd forward any/all
directories named ".svn" to the default 404 error/page (so
html/bob/.svn and /html/mic/v3/.svn would both return a 404 error,
regardless if they existed or not). I am going to be dynamically
creating and removing new .svn directories daily so I rather not have
to create an .htaccess file for each directory and instead have one
entry in my root .htaccess file. Any help would be greatly
appreciated, thx =).
