Author Tomcat installation: necessary directories and what can be omitted

Hello,

I'm currently working on an rpm for our internal use and a policy in
our company says "do not package anything that is not really
necessary". So the question is:
What do I really need? We are currently testing confluence
(http://confluence.atlassian.com).

I'm plannng to install everything to /usr/local/tomcat and in a test
install I got an incredible amount of directories and files there, some
of them are definitely (e.g. webapps/jsp-examples) or most likely (e.g
webapps/webdav) not needed and can more or less safely be omitted.

Is there any documentation available that explains in details which
directory is used whatfor?

Thanks in advance,
Thoralf
