Author authName encoding

Hello,
How do I get/set encoding for realm name, which appears
in http-auth dialog? I want this string to contain localized letters.
If I set up webserver encoding to ISO-8859-2 or UTF-8, and
then I put a string of this encoding with some special letters,
it's not displayed properly (in both cases).

How browsers care about it? I'd bet it's actually encoding of
http authorization request, however I'm not sure about it,
and I don't know whether any browser uses encoding with
http authorization request.. request must have encoding,
but how it's used to display authorization prompt, by browsers?
Regards,
Piotr
